We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Kheder & Jessica Gallup and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie Kheder & Jessica Gallup, how do you think about risk?
Creativity is all about risks — taking the chance to conceptualize and execute something not knowing the outcome or response. Letting go of the risk, going faithfully in the direction of our vision, knowing there are people just like us out there and there’s something for everyone; we are a spiritual, esoteric, witchy, hippie, mindfullness head shop and love making beautiful things that we think fit the different personalities and versions of our type. Having a way to survive logistically and feed our souls at the same time is the goal. Throughout our lives and careers we’ve both relocated to different places, taking the risk to lay down new roots to establish ourselves. In the case of Coven and Cloche it is in the spiritual e-platform which was innovative to us, coming from the traditional brick and mortar and the wholesale and product development side of business, we knew we had to make that jump to be different and to shake things up and do it our way. Both of us being Aquarians (Sun sign — specifically, 7 days and 7 years apart) it’s in the stars that we like to surround ourselves with creativity, stand for what we believe regardless of the rules, and own it never looking back.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We have been creating and creative our entire lives, it’s in us, it’s built into our blood and brains and we excel when it come to being resourceful through art and making something from nothing. We have an endless rabbit hole of ideas, imaginations, inspiration, inventions, and intentions– and we are both very inspired by antiques, curiosities, history, jewelry, fashion, ephemera, design, craftsmanship, music, and materials. We met in 2011 working for a wholesale jewelry brand in the gift market industry and we believe we were cosmically aligned to meet in that setting because it was the beginning of realizing our full potential not only from that point also in the years to follow as even when we would separate our art, it would still always find its way back to each other. Our biggest challenge is carving more time to dedicate to creating as twin flames in a true partnership that is driven 100% by us and nobody else. Along the way we have learned that the more we stay true to our authentic selves and what makes us happy, the more we feel success.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Sonora Town, DTLA: flower district, fabric district, jewelry district, glitter district, dive bar, Jumbos, dispensary for the other flower district, 40 Chicken McNuggets, Sinead O’Connor, bed.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We want to shoutout to each other (Steph to Jess, and Jess to Steph)– we love each other and our creativity and collaborating for many years has fed into one another, and that’s the reason why we are doing us.
