We had the good fortune of connecting with Sterling Avery and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sterling, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
You have to not be afraid to take risks in this business. It’s so many things that are uncertain and a lot of rare moments are captured & cultivated the moment you step outside your comfort zone.

In my career I’ve risked time with family & friends, tons of money & many relationships to make this things work, but it all came full circle. I have an excellent relationship with my family & friends and business is consistently improving.

At the end of the day, you have to have a focused drive.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I got where I am today from simply not giving up on myself. Staying consistent and always working towards making improvements as an artist and businessman.

It wasn’t easy and it’s still no cake walk but if you just don’t give up on yourself you’ll figure it out. This game has many doors that don’t get unlocked without having some years spent in it.

I just want the world to know I have a global brand that can be trusted. I make high level hip hop music and I just wanted to keep expanding

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a tough one because I’m more of a home body than anything. I’m only outside when I need to be for the most part. I go to the gym more than anywhere else. 2nd most favorite spot is the studio. I know a lot of people but I’m always by myself with the engineer when I record.

One of my favorite places to eat in Oakland Chef Smellys. I don’t have any hangout spots, I’m out at alot of listening parties, live shows, local sporting events and some Warriors games. But thats pretty much it

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank God first and I want to shoutout The whole Shmoplife & HBK gang. I learned so much the first leg of my career around the squad. It was an excellent foundation in this industry for me. I learned a lot of lessons and progressives steps to being an artist
