We had the good fortune of connecting with steve e ross and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi steve e, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
2020 has really forced me to change my balance of work and life, time, health, and enjoyment of life. When I first started living my passion, my number one focus was work, Work, and more WORK. However due to covid of 2020 I work less, and am more productive. Yet my balance is now enjoying my time, family, friends and life more. I know that the balance change is best.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
3 a.) Please tell us more about your art.
What I like about the Artist / Creative type is that you use your inner compass to guide you along your path. You choose your medium, style, subjects, art, or direction, that best express you and your vision. Conscious Music and Art is the medium of my choice.
3 b.)We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others?
I wouldn’t say that I’m apart from others, but what I would say: ” Is that any of the music, artists, projects or people I work with, my #1 priority is solely to create music /art that inspires, uplifts, enlightens, and empowers”. That is my personal mission.
3 c.) What you are most proud of or excited about?
I’m most proud of knowing the positive impact our Music and Art has on people. What excites me is seeing how many people globally are gravitating to our Art and Music. This lets us know that there is a conscious shift happening, and desire for this type of art / medium.
3 d.) How did you get to where you are today professionally?
It has taken many years of learning the craft of music and art, instrumentation, education, practice and trusting my inner impulse, that has lead me to where I am today.
3 e.) Was it easy?
How I would love to say Yes it was easy, but truthfully, I must emphatically say “No, no,no!!! it was NOT!!”. I have experienced and seen how many artist / creative types find it difficult to survive and maintain their life. Many of us struggle financially, emotionally, mentally, and creatively. The flip side to this is that often these hard times can be the catalyst and turning point that inspires Great Works of Art that stand the test of time.
3 f.) If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
It has not been easy, like many artist / creative I have experienced the hardships and lack of finacial support. Leading me to becoming homeless, a starving musician, and a broken human. I overcame the challenges by prayer, and taking the time out to think. Thinking and meditating on my life, purpose, direction, art, and a plan. Once I had a plan, than I took small daily steps to accomplish that plan. Through years of patience and perseverance the plan came together.
3.g) What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
There are so, so, many lessons I have learned, I would say there are a few that stand out. One I’ve learned that it takes “Tenacity” to succeed in your vision, goals and action. (whatever they may be) Some of my greatest creations of music, art, and business have been because of Tenacity. My 2nd would be to always stay “Flexible” and be able to change. 3rd “Faith” !!! Faith in that which has yet to be seen.
3 h.) What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
That is an Awesome question. I would say the take away from my story is “Believe in yourself”, because you can do it. Also I’d like people to know and enjoy what the Exclusive Brand is all about. We are a Social Label of Conscious Artist who are deeply committed and passionate in our music, art and mission to “Spread Love” (Currently it’s what the world needs more of… just my opinion. hahaaa) The music genre ranges from Alternative/Rock to Jazz, Soul/RnB to Electronica, House/Techno to Folk, and Pop to Yoga/Meditative. I personally want to invite you to view, listen, enjoy and share. Inclusive to “ALL” an “Exclusive for You.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Many of my friends come to visit Los Angeles. Normally for the first timers I like to show Hollywood, and take a leisure walk down the boulevard to view the street performers and the Stars on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. If it’s warm or sunny I like to show Venice and Santa Monica Beach, to enjoy and show the beautiful diversity Los Angeles has to offer. A couple of places I like to hangout and show friends is Amoeba Records to listen to new music and see some of the new upcoming music artists. If there is a special exhibit I like to take them to the Grammy Museum. One of the more interesting places I like to show and visit is the Los Angeles Griffith Park Observatory and the hiking trails. When in a city like L.A. It’s always good to go to the many parks and hiking trails to reconnect with nature.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many books, people, and situations that have assisted me along my journey. I would say I am eternally grateful to Michael Beckwith of Agape International Spiritual Center. There I learned about my unlimited potential and how to use it. That gave me the ability to move confidently in the direction of my musical passion. My 2nd Shoutout would be to Doug Fenske of Cre-8 Music Academy. His music production technics, teachings and encouragement really empowered me with the knowledge and confidence to succeed in music. Last but not least I have to give major props to Bobby Borg, and staff of M.I. aka Music Institute of Hollywood, Ca. There they taught me about the business side of the music industry and the importance of business and entertainment.
