We had the good fortune of connecting with Steven Rueda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Steven, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think everyone should take risks. In order to accomplish your goals and dreams , you have to take risks. A lot of my accomplishments are because of the risks I’ve taken. If you don’t take the risk, then you’ll miss out on a lot. You miss 100% of the opportunities you don’t take. So take advantage of every opportunity you get and take that risk.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I see my art as a lifestyle. I want you to feel like you’re there in the moment. Art has no rules , and with photography being an art form, there are no rules and that’s what sets me apart from others. I take pictures of what I like and it shouldn’t matter if anyone else likes it or not. The journey has been long , but I’m glad to be where I’m at. It wasn’t easy getting here, from getting turned down and all the negative hatred getting thrown towards me, but I never gave up. Know your worth, don’t ever settle for less and be yourself. Don’t act like someone or something you’re not. Being yourself is the best thing you can do. It’ll set you apart from the real and the fake. I’m still super young and have a long way to go, but for the age I am right now, I consider myself to be very hard working.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting my area, the first place I’m taking him is Bachiyaki. It’s a food truck that’s in Paramount. They have many locations but that one is the closest to my house. Then I’d take him to a rooftop in Downtown LA that has a helicopter pad and a nice view of all the buildings. After that, we’re going to Round Two on Melrose and buying some clothes. We’d probably get some Happy Ice down the street as well. Lastly, we’d probably go eat again at this place called Moon BBQ, it’s the best Korean BBQ I’ve ever had.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a special shoutout to my friends and family for always believing in me and always motivating me to go to the next level. I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for you guys.
