We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydni Purvis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sydni, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
1. What was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After years working in the corporate recruiting world, I realized the work that truly energized me was helping people create calm and order in their homes and daily lives. Organization has always come naturally to me, and I began to see how impactful it can be for others too. Tidy Syd grew from that realization to turn something I love into work that feels meaningful, personal, and genuinely helpful to people.

2. Social impact: how does your business help the community or the world?
Through Tidy Syd, I aim to help people create calmer, more functional environments that support their everyday lives. When a space is organized, people often feel lighter, more focused, and more in control of their time and energy. I also encourage clients to thoughtfully donate items they no longer need so those belongings can continue to serve others in the community. My goal is not just to organize homes, but to help people build systems that reduce stress and make daily life flow more smoothly.

3. Risk taking: How do you think about risk, what role has taking risks played in your life/career?
Taking the risk to step away from a traditional career path allowed me to create work that feels meaningful and personal. I came from a corporate recruiting background, and while it taught me a lot about people, I knew I wanted to build something more aligned with how I naturally help others.

4. What is the most important factor behind your success / the success of your brand?
I believe authenticity has been the most important factor. Tidy Syd reflects who I genuinely am, which is someone who loves creating order, simplifying systems, and helping people feel more at ease in their spaces. Clients respond to that sincerity, and I focus on listening carefully to what each person needs rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach. When people feel supported and understood, the results tend to follow naturally.

5. Work life balance: how has your balance changed over time? How do you think about the balance?
In the beginning, I was eager to say yes to everything, but over time I realized that sustainable work requires boundaries and intentional downtime. Now I try to structure my schedule in a way that allows me to show up fully for clients while also protecting time for rest and creativity. Balance is not always perfect, but learning to pace myself has made work far more fulfilling.

6. How do you define success?
For me, the success within my line of work would have to be that “AH-HA” moment I can see in my clients face when they just realized that my organization just significantly improved their life. It is a fulfilling moment that has me saying to myself “I love what I do.” What does not define success more than that?

What should our readers know about your business?
Tidy Syd was created from a simple idea: when our spaces feel calm and organized, our lives feel lighter too. I work with clients to thoughtfully organize their homes and digital spaces in a way that feels personal, practical, and sustainable. What sets Tidy Syd apart is the care and trust built into the process. I truly love helping people reclaim their space and peace of mind. Starting the business came after feeling burned out in the corporate world, and while building something new was not always easy, it has been incredibly rewarding. Along the way I have learned that growth comes from listening, staying genuine, and creating something that reflects who you really are. Tidy Syd is about more than organization. It is about helping people feel at home in their lives again.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
