We had the good fortune of connecting with Taj and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taj, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe taking risks are essential to success. In our opinion a risk is simply a plan no one has discovered yet. This mindset comes from an out of the box cognition which fuels Fused by Defiance’s decisions on music in general. As risk takers we are aware of the high rewards that come with the gamble and the massive failure it could lead to however we are brave enough to accept the challenge. I personally took a risk in joining FxD.

Upon Audition the only vocals I knew how to do were rap vocals. The boys blatantly asked if I could do singing and screaming vocals and instead of saying no, I took a chance on myself and confirmed these were vocal types I could do. Ironically once I took that chance, the sheer crisis of the situation propelled me to learn these skills rather quickly and it’s allowed us all to expand our music versatility. Because I’m relatively impulsive, I generally make quickly calculated risks and have been able to advance faster in all aspects of my career.

Playing it safe is cool, and in some cases the better choice, but what can make it less effective is that it’s easy; comfortable. If one chooses to get stuck in that comfort too often, they may cease to grow and expand to their greatest potential.

You know what they say, no guts no glory.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Fused by Defiance is a numetal band from Los Angeles, California. We are known for our high energy performances and catchy riffs that blend well with rap vocals. As a group, we are most proud of our ability to speak on issues of social importance.

What makes us different from others is the collaborative backgrounds of each of our members. All of us essentially come from different worlds yet we are a close nit group who is after a similar goal, equality and justice for all. On stage, we move as a collective body and through our music, we generate a forward mindset in efforts to unite the minds of those who choose to listen.

Getting were we are today was not the easiest road, individually each member has had their struggles, however we fought to overcome these struggles with the help of our collective FxD family. Some lessons we’ve learned are that at any moment a pandemic can hit and our ability to do what we love (play shows) can be cut off. So live for the moment and make the best of each show.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spot in the city to visit (pre or post pandemic) is always the bar scene in west hollywood. Its an LGBTQ friendly area and its always a good and safe place to hang out with friends at. Of course the beaches would be the next best place! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my family and the band members of Kittenhead. Both have been instrumental in aiding in my growth as a musician and a person. They have always had my back and pushed me towards success.
