We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Murray and Elise Brigandi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgan and Elise, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
When starting a small business, there are so many trials and tribulations. There are so many times where it feels easy to give up or forget about your dream. One thing that really keeps us pushing forward is when we hear that our suits make our customers feel confident. We also love hearing that we have inspired someone. Whether it’s inspiring someone to start their own company or inspiring someone to be more sustainable, it always reminds us to keep going.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’d say that we are most proud of the fit of our suits. We have found that this is the hardest part to accomplish when designing swimwear and we are confident in the hard work we’ve put in. We got to where we are by reaching out to people for any advice or help they can give us. Neither of us graduated from college so we learned everything we know by either trying it ourselves or by reaching out. We found that a lot of companies and professional people are really open to helping the under dog. The biggest lesson we have learned is to take each setback as a learning lesson, not a roadblock. Here at Nuku, one of our top priorities is to spread awareness about protecting our oceans. Our goal is to become one of the leading swimwear brands that are taking strides in reversing the negative effects the fashion industry has on our earth. We want to be able to educate the younger generation while still offering on-trend products.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA has so many different and exciting things about it. Some of the top things that I would highlight are the Griffith Observatory, vintage shopping on Melrose, Echo Park lake, Rosebowl flea market, and lastly the downtown LA food and art scene.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to dedicate our shout out to the owner and founder of Purre Boutique in Costa Mesa, Natasha Quinn. This is someone who has believed in us from the very beginning. She has helped grown our brand is so many ways. We owe so much to her!
