We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Mautner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business, was that I have a keen eye for design, and a passion for branding and customer service. Pretty simple, right? After college I knew I wanted to be self employed and thats when the idea of of launching Rachel Mautner Interior Design bloomed. In the process of launching RMID, I wanted to help pave the way for other young millennial interior designers to break into this industry.
What should our readers know about your business?
Rachel Mautner Interior Design is a boutique residential design studio who serves clients in Chicago, Los Angeles and Orlando. I launched RMID when I was nineteen years-old. As you can imagine, over the course of the last five years, I have learned a lot about the design industry. I have learned that time management and communication have been areas of which I’ve grown the most. I want VoyageLA readers to know that there have been many times where I have failed. But consistency has been the single thing that turned failures into success. If I can do it, so can you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Depending on the season, it will depend on where you will find me! If one of my girl friends is coming out to LA here are some of my favorite spots… For drinks I would take her to Spire73. Between the view, the service, and private seating, its an experience you won’t forget. With so many great dinner spots in L.A I am between Angelini Osteria (7313 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036) or The Nice Guy (401 N La Cienega Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90048). Both have very intimate atmospheres, a curated menu and wine list. You can’t go wrong with either. If its her first time in Los Angeles we will do the typical things. A hike, a trip to the Santa Monica pier, lunch at Nobu, a museum. If it’s not her first visit, we will sit by the pool all day, enjoy a fresh juice from Moon Juice (2839 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90026) go for a walk, maybe a spa day the Raven Spa (2910 Rowena Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90039).
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my cousin, Peyton, who is a Los Angeles based tattoo artist! She’s a hustler, creative and extremely passionate about the art of tattooing. You can schedule your appointment and check out her work on Instagram. Instagram.com/Real_
