We had the good fortune of connecting with Tammy Takaishi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tammy, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
The social impact of my podcast is one of the post important components of why I do what I do. Creative Peacemeal is about telling authentic stories of life in the fine and creative arts, and with that, encouraging and inspiring people to be creative in their lives, however it works best for them. It is my hope that my podcast will touch people’s lives and help elevate artists, encourage someone to try a new hobby, to uplift someone’s spirits. Ultimately, I want to leave this world a better place than how I entered.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In addition to podcasting, I am absolutely honored to be a Board Certified-Music Therapist. This career is so meaningful to me, and once I realized it was my calling, it was like a puzzle piece clicked for me in the grand scheme of life. It was not easy getting to this point. I explored other degrees and went to grad school a few times before figuring out what I truly wanted to do. However, once I locked in on that, it was full-speed ahead! Graduate school for music therapy was very fulfilling to me because I’d found my purpose in life, something I am so incredibly passionate about. However, it wasn’t without life’s difficulties. I lost my mom to cancer in the middle of earning my degree, and she never got to see my dream come to fruition. And when I first graduated, I was lucky enough to land a full-time job, but it wasn’t where I’d planned on living, and it wasn’t in the setting I’d originally wished for, but it provided me with great experience both personally and professionally that I carry with me to this day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I presently live in the Houston metro area and you can’t visit H town without going to NASA, as well as eating some AMAZING food! Some of my personal fave restaurants are: Niko Niko’s Greek restaurant, and House of Pies. There is a plethora of great Mexican and Tex-Mex places to eat, so hard to pick just one of those!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are SO many people who have helped and encouraged me along the way. Firstly, this show wouldn’t be what it is without my guests, all 140+ (and future) guests have touched my life, and made this show the success it is, and of course the listeners from all over the world! 95 countries and counting! It is stunning.
I want to give a few special shoutouts to Heather Edwards of AhHaBroadway! who has become one of my biggest cheerleaders, and closest friends. Jack Canfora for being my rock; championing and believing in me every step of the way in podcasting, and beyond. Elizabeth MacDuffie and Mark Alan Miller of Meat For Teacast for their continued support, encouragement, and guest connections. Steve March Tormé and Malcolm Bruce for their friendship, support, and belief in me and the show. Childhood besties Catherine Brusk and Leah Oladitan for not only being guests, but promoting my show from the start. Liz Schubert, my long-distance bestie for always being there for anything.
Also, to my PR company Grateful PR, they have been fantastic at helping get the word out about the podcast, and of course the many professionals I work with regularly to bring in amazing guests, particularly John Lappen and Amanda Cagan. They have been huge supporters of the show and helped me secure some high-profile. guests.
