We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanta Vorawatanakul and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tanta, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
A cup of boba tea always makes me feel better after a long day of work. When you having a bad day, having someone to talk to can make a world of difference. Also, just seeing random happy doggies at the park will boost up my day too!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art basically inspired by everyday life or a special piece of memory. I could say that for me Drawing/Painting is my way of writing my diary. I enjoyed exploring the technique using textures and weird shapes, it gives me unpredictable results.
While being an artist hasn’t been easy, My biggest challenge on this journey has been overcoming depression. I feel a lack of motivation and burnout from time to time. My best piece of advice for the people who face the same problem is just taking a rest from what you do for a bit and go back in when you feel like it and it’s important to reach out for help. If asking for assistance feels difficult, consider developing a self-care “check-in” with close friends and family members.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Assuming my best friend never visiting San Francisco. I’d probably start the day with a glass of refreshing drink at YiFang Taiwan Fruit Tea. For the place to eat, I would say Cajun House is a great place to enjoy Cajun Shrimp and their Garlic Noodle is really yummy too! For the place to hang out, I really enjoy spending my weekend out in the park like Golden Gate Park or Alamo Square. I usually bring my sketchbook with me and draw with my friends.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would say first and foremost is my life partner, Ferrari. She always there helping me through the darkest time in my life. She maintained the smile on my face and pushed me to be the best version of myself. My family (Mom, Dad, and my sister Tinna) for always providing encouragement and support through my artistic journey. I’m also lucky that my friends here in SF are very nice and genuine with me too. Thank you, guys!
