We had the good fortune of connecting with Ghaz bazrafshan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ghaz, how does your business help the community?
It is incredibly important to us to give back in our community. We feed people so if there are people in need we are happy to provide them with meals. We do discounted holiday meals for our local seniors, free meals for our unhoused neighbors, and donate food to as many causes as we can manage. Some organizations come to us for meals on very small budgets and we are always happy to provide them such as the SELAH Mobile Shower Events for the unhoused. I am a board member of Kid’s Movement and NELA Community, two non profits that provide food for the unhoused, food and supplies for low income families and I also work with the ERNC Elder Director to provide low cost or free meals to local seniors with food insecurity. We also pride ourselves on being a safe place for all people. We do not tolerate any hate in any form and we proudly raised $3000 for BLM Los Angeles and The Marsha P. Johnson foundation with a free BLM Cookout with the help of our friends at Hello Stranger LA, RecordBoxTruck and Chef Allagia.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have been in business for 16 years. I started out as a part time employee and within months I became manager, Soon after that I became a partner, We truly put our hearts into what we do and the food has love so it makes me very proud to know that the community sees and feels that. It is incredible important to me to give back to those in need and it is a big part of who we are at Dave’s. There have been so man challenges along the way whether it was losing our location the first time, a recession, losing our location the second time because of the pandemic or just trying to navigate the unknowns of business in the time of Covid to stay above water. But we are the #littlesandwichshopthatcould so no matter what happens I always get back up and figure out how to keep moving forward.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would definitely hike Amir’s Garden in Griffith Park, hit up the Laugh Riot Grrrl open mic at Tao Comedy Studio, have cocktails at Colombos Italian Steak House, pizza at Casa Bianca, a show at the Hollywood Bowl (post apocalypse of course) and Eagle Rock Brewery for some insanely good local brew
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my story to my strong and fierce mother Mahin and my best friend and partner Dave Evans
