We had the good fortune of connecting with Taryn Mitsunaga and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taryn, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk. Good ol’ risk! Living your best life has risk written all over it but specifically business is what comes to mind first. There is no way I would have reached any success without taking risks. I believe every single person in the world has a purpose (and the definition of risk will mean something different to each individual). Yet it is still one of the non negotiables that you have to sign up for again + again. There is no same road map to success but in order to have a chance to live out your dreams or the life you want, it requires you to constantly get comfortable with being uncomfortable. The longer I am on this (entrepreneurship/life) “journey” and reflect, I realize that all of the pivotal moments of gain had not been reached without some sort of risk taken. Creating a business + entrepreneurship truly continues to be such an inside + personal job. I believe that what actually matters beyond the “risk” itself, is your intention + the belief of it working out for you that ultimately drives the outcome. I used to measure risk by how much I’d possibly lose but when I changed how I viewed every decision/action I made, the risk became less scary. It’s pretty incredible once you realize that everything is always working out for you and that you should trust yourself, your instincts and gut feelings no matter how much it may not make “sense”. It’s not easy when challenges pop up but the more you look for “how could this be a good” then the “what if’s” begin to not hold power over you. Taking “risks” in my life has normalized to a point that if I’m not feeling uncomfortable, I begin to feel stagnant + i’ll review where else can I expand and grow. Whenever doubt creeps in (bc it does) or a risk I take doesn’t go how I wished or hoped for, I don’t let that stop me for too long. I now have so many reference points of risks that I’ve taken (that actually worked out) to pull from, that I can refer to help me on move forward or take the next jump quicker. It’s a constant reminder that there is something better brewing ahead and everything always works out even better than I imagined in the end!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

How did I get here today in business? Gratitude can never get enough credit but it’s also in the life experiences that I’ve personally gone through that has shaped my knowledge and I. It’s been about pushing the envelope of my comfort zones, putting the time into creating clarity in what drives me, what I love about what I do, investing in myself and support along the way but then making sure I check in and stay aligned with that ultimate truth. It can change and evolve as we do but knowing who I am in the face of life, automatically trickles down to my business + has saved a lot of time!! I will never say I did this alone, it takes a village but I can honestly share that I have been open from day one on the unfolding of my life. It didn’t make sense to many and most of the time it was not a practical decision yet I kept allowing my intuition to lead. It has not been easy but it’s been worth it. Bringing joy + the essence of “Disneyland” to people through events, experiences, interactions + my community has only just begun! Stay tuned because everyone deserves a little bit of the Taryn + Co magic!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This would take so much longer than a week because our city has everything- incredible views, people, energy + the best of the best to experience!! Wait, are we talking pre-pandemic? Ha. I’ll mix it in with the current reality + some!
I’d arrange it so they’d be here for a concert at the Rosebowl, The Greek Theater or Hollywood because there is nothing quite like live music with our weather!
Casa Del Mar lobby in Santa Monica during the magic hour to enjoy beach front views, live music + some yummy bites/drinks.
For a night in, Sugar Fish would be delivered!
You can’t beat the “Best fish taco in Ensenada” in Los Feliz- there’s nothing fancy but these 4 items on the menu is all you need + will definitely come back for more!
In n Out on the way to or from the airport!
For a delicious steak dinner, i’d book us a reservation in Mastro’s Penthouse in Beverly hills- the butter cake is a must!
There’s nothing quite like the a visit to dine, shop + stroll at the Palisades Village, truly divine!
Jeni’s ice cream for something sweet- they use the top notch ingredients + have incredible flavors + that can blow your mind!
The beauty about this city and state is that you can think of the vibe or experience and you best believe we have it. You will have to plan it out and can’t do all of it in a day or week but you can find it! It’s why so many who visit end up staying because Los Angeles is a lifestyle + there is no other place like it around the world.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh yes, there are so many people, mentors, books, colleagues + love from others that have been major heavy hitters in what i’ve created. I can’t speak enough on how important it is to surround yourself with other like minded people, ask for help and get support. It changed my life once I allowed that in for myself without judgment. We aren’t suppose to do this on our own yet it can often times feels like we are. There isn’t one particular person or book bc they were each a vital piece to the puzzle of my life. But what i’ve learned from all of the support, love + encouragement from others that deserves a shout out is that we don’t give ourselves enough credit for all that we’ve been through and accomplished. I’d like to lead by example by shouting out myself bc without me, choosing myself, choosing my dreams, believing in the unseen and diving into the unknown, it wouldn’t matter what book I read, what the Top World Wide mentor I worked with or book would say.. It all goes back to me, waking up every day and choosing to be the best version of myself, lead with kindness, my heart and move through what ever bumps in the road pop up. That’s why we’re here, to honor ourselves, share ourselves, gifts, have some fun + celebrate through it all. Cheers to me, cheers to YOU in wherever you are in this moment.
