Meet Tashia Farries | Chef

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tashia Farries and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tashia, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Hammond, Indiana, right outside of Chicago. The area I grew up in was more like a village, we were all family and looked out for one another. I was taught early how to hustle and survive whether it was from my grandmother who owned her own business, my mom who worked overnight to provide then eventually started a day care, or family members who street hustled to make ends meet. Hammond taught me discipline, survival, hustle and determination. I will never forget where I came from but know exactly where I want to go, which is up.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a private chef with a catering company as well. What sets me apart from other chefs is my ability to cook such a wide range of dishes. I constantly challenge myself by creating and learning new dishes from all cultures so I can be placed in any situation. I can cook for 2 people in a private home and leave to cater an event for 300 people and still end my day happy, looking forward to another day. This road surely wasn’t easy but it is worth it. One of my biggest challenges is going through this journey without my mom due to her dementia disease so every day I am motivated to keep going because I know this was too her passion and she is a fighter.
I am just getting started and the world will get to know Chef Tashia and Pinch of Love one plate at a time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely love the beach areas of LA so that would be the first stop. I like to have drinks/food with a view to get a clear mind and let my people experience fresh air with a bigger perspective to motivate them to do better. I also like to visit the Crenshaw area to remind me where I came from and get a glimpse of home.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to dedicate my success to God, to my mother, and my wife. Without either of them, none of my success would be possible. My mom kept me in the kitchen with her as a child and it became my happy place, my safe space, and the spot to have gatherings and feel good once I got my own.
