We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatiana Erse and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatiana, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I believe that we all are born with a special talent. Throughout the years you either develop that talent or pursue a different path. In my case, music was such a crucial expression of my personal feelings and how i dealt with life in general that, making it a career never felt like much of a choice. Singing is part of my earliest memories and with that, a sense of identity is found. Being able to be professionally connected to my biggest passion in life is not something a lot of people get to do and i am forever grateful for the opportunity !
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a bilingual person, i am able to write songs in my native language Portuguese, from Brazil and also English. I love that i get to express myself in many different cultures. I must admit that i am proud of my band “The Sister knot” and my latest album “Tatiana Erse, Live at Sunset Sound”, both projects are close to my heart and completely fulfills my musical necessities. Being able to be where i am today is a combination of meeting the right people due to endless searching of opportunities and always networking, a hard work ethic to myself, by pushing my limits, trying new things, being open to new experiences, continued studying of my craft and most of all, believing in myself. None of these things are developed from one day to the next, it’s hard work and a lot of discipline. The trick, i believe, to keep being able to do what i love is to understand that this is a profession, my gigs are my job, that my voice is my instrument and all of these things have to be taken seriously and with care so i can keep on doing it for as many days as i possibly can. It’s important to learn throughout your journey that hardships will strike, things will go wrong, ideas will differ but being gracious, grateful and patient, will go long ways. These are all small steps to a bigger picture! I hope to convey to the world that music isn’t a momentary thing, music is forever and it’ll always be there when u most need it. I hope to humbly heal wounds with my voice and touch hearts with my music, spreading magic and love, witch the world can never get enough of.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Los Angeles is filled with art, music and food, my favorite things in the world! You can spend your days by the South Bay area, dining and having cocktails by the Hermosa Pier/Redondo Beach pier and by night, hit the incredible venues for live music such as The Hotel Cafe, in Downtown LA, followed by a visit at COLES Restaurant, for some French Deep sandwiches and a Bloody Mary!!! Unfortunately, many of the venues in the South Bay have been shut down and i can only hope that it can find its way back when all of this has calmed down!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without the support of the fans who come to the shows, buy the merch and stream the songs, none of this could have existed. My team and dream band “The Sister Knot”, consistent of Julia Lage and Pablo Martins, is the force who’s behind our biggest successes! They say “if you wanna go fast, go alone, but if u wanna go far, go together” is exactly what we do! The band is a family on it’s own! Shoutout to Drew Dempsey at Sunset Sound Studios, for believing in upcoming talents and making things happen for the love of music and art! Shout out to my parents for always being 100% supportive and always showing up! Also, can’t forget to mention the South Bay musical scene in Los Angeles, for being so rich with music, friends, venues and for always inspiring me to keep moving forward.
