Meet Taylor Jazz Martinez: Professional Beauty Expert & Makeup Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Jazz Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor Jazz, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When asked about taking risks the first thing that comes to mind is one of my favorite quotes by Jack Canfield, “Everything you want is on the other side of fear” I have held his quote close to my heart throughout my 10 years of experience in the beauty industry, knowing that whenever I felt scared I was in the right place. In the beginning of my journey as a flourishing business owner everything felt like a scary risk. I spent my first year commuting from OC to LA almost daily, taking as many free jobs as I could. I paid for parking out of my own pocket, and essentially was doing anything and everything I could to be working creatively with clients. I had to learn the ins and outs of what I wanted to do , and what impact I wanted to make on the industry. But when something scared me or made me nervous, I would always see that as an opportunity and I would never say no to anything despite how risky or fearful it was at the time. It was not always easy and I struggled to find my way. Fast forward about eight years, I had learned to navigate my way around these risks, learned from them, and had achieved this beautiful state of flow within myself and my career. I love to share my experiences with others in my industry just as much as I love listening to others and their journey. Sitting down and talking to strangers is a risk in itself but I have met some of the most influential people that have changed my life and career doing so.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As an artist in the beauty industry today what separates me is my life experience and intense passion in beauty and making people feel good by enhancing their features with hair and makeup. I’m an incredibly versatile artist that has worked on thousands of Playboy & Maxim photo shoots, commercials, weddings, fitness competitions, editorials, and special events. I absolutely love my work and take pride in the amazing relationships that I form with my clients. MY SERVICES REPRESENT THE EPITOME OF GLAM. No doubt, my clients walk away feeling gorgeous and confident that they look their very best. I’m extremely hands-on whenever I’m on set and pay close attention to detail. You could call me a perfectionist, but it’s important to me that my clients always look and feel 110% best. I believe I am where I am today because of NETWORKING, NETWORKING, NETWORKING. I found a way to transition my professional partying skills into becoming a professional networker that could easily become anyone’s best friend. I was strategic with who I surrounded myself with and became conscious that there was a world of opportunity that existed. I started traveling the world, nurturing my connections and experienced such a powerful mindset shift that BLASTED my career Trust me, this whole process wasn’t easy. I had to deal with rejection and being undervalued as an artist. Eventually I started landing A-list celebrities & clients, thanks to my dedication, hard work ethic, & trusting my inner voice that I could do what I dreamed of. I am most proud of how quickly the hard work paid off and the business grew. I love the recognition I receive from my peers. I am proud of the work relationships that have turned into friendships and the friendships that grew into work relationships. I went from doing makeup at a small makeup stand in the mall ten years ago to working with some of the top creatives in L.A. I’m so proud of that.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friends were coming to visit me for a week this is what the week would look like. I am a big food person so we would start with a fresh vegan meal from VIBE organics in Newport Beach. Any food spot that plays Carl Cox while I eat is a must visit spot to me. We then would grab desert at Bacio Di Latte at Fashion Island and drive over to the lookout point in Newport Beach overlooking the bay. This place is super peaceful and has brought so many relaxing memories with my loved ones, since I take everyone I know there. Another one of my favorite lunch spots is Bear Flag. They have killer ceviche and a beautiful location on the harbor of Newport beach. I usually walk across the street after I’m done eating and go to my favorite thrift store “Swellegant Vintage”. As for nightlife we would have dinner at Rothchild’s in Corona Del Mar. The ambiance/ atmosphere reminds me of a european restaurant that is beautiful, classy, and intimate. With the music and candle lit dinner I have the best experience every time. I would order the Fettuccine Romano with a side of Chicken. Ultimately , I love spending quality time with my friends and having them for a week to myself. We would most likely spend a little time shopping at “The Lab” , I love their creative setting and unique stores, a little time eating, but most of our time would be spent on the sofa talking, talking, talking!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The majority of my success comes from failure. Failing and learning lessons. I am in the most amazing space in my life right now and this would have never happened without constant failure, picking myself back up when I get knocked down and becoming resilient to life’s lessons. Especially the ones that make you stronger. One of the first groups that gave me an opportunity was an entertainment company named Zenarts. I will always remember the moment I walked into my first job with them. I met 7 artists Kelsea (airbrush), Roxy (stylist), Doug(director), Hans(airbrush), Tosca(Production manager/ performer), Kiley(production Manager), and Donna (performer/ all around badass). I knew I felt inspired, uplifted and they all made me want to be a better person within moments of working together. I had never felt such a powerful energy from like minded people. I also never believed in myself more than after being surrounded by this group of wildly unique and talented individuals. After that day I knew I would do anything in my power to become close friends with these artists, learn from each of them, and I knew that I wanted to impact people the way they had impacted me. This was the beginning of many influential people that entered my life. I am most proud of the efforts I’ve made with these friendships and mentorships. From that first day at Zenarts we have all continued to grow together in our careers and formed lifelong friendships that I treasure so dearly.
