We had the good fortune of connecting with Telli Swift and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Telli, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor in my brand was believing in myself. As far as fashion designing, there is always someone making jackets, clothing, fitness products, and masks. I believed in my brand, my products, and what made mine different from the rest (my “it” factor). No one can push your brand better than yourself and if you don’t believe in your own product, who else will? As for my association, I knew collectively we needed an association for the woman of boxing to come together and lend a helping hand to our communities. I believed in myself and my mission and got others on board with similar visions to join the board and the rest is history. To be an entrepreneur, I believe you need to inspire yourself to push your dreams out and act on it to your best ability and not seek validation from anyone because your so confident in your brand you have no choice but to succeed.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart from other brands or designers is that I like to make my products multi-use or one or one. As someone that is into fashion, I always wanted to set myself apart and stand out from others. I started making one of one custom vintage jackets. So no one could have the exact same design. As for my mask, I made them a 4-in-1 wear mask and for each mask purchased a portion of the proceeds donates to charity. Being an Entrepreneur isn’t easy. You have to make sure you know your target audience and make sure your price point make sense to that audience. It’s all about trial and error and your going to spend money before you make money. You learn and grow from your mistakes and keep pushing. Once you get rid of all the kinks, your business will prosper.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I were to have my best friend come to the city for a week long, I would make sure we eat at all the great food spots the city has to offer! Like brunch and mimosas at La Petit Four on Sunset. Let our food digest some and take a hike on Runyon Canyon, followed by dinner at Catch. I also love a great vegan option like Sugar Taco on Melrose and shopping on Rodeo is always fun! I feel like now that I’m older, my fun consist of Fitness activities, eating, and spending time with friends and family and what better city to do all those things in than Los Angeles?! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my family for always supporting me and having my back, for always believing in me and my vision, even though they may sometimes seem out the box, have too much liability, or may take to long or not have much financial gain. To my team, Kim, Cassie, Irene, Chenoa, Jolisa, Vanessa, Lauren, my board members in my association, Ashley & Ceci, for making sure we push out nothing but the best, while also looking and feeling our best internally as well as external. To all the people that see me as influential and an inspiration this one is for you, to believe in yourself and follow your dreams because nothing can stop you besides yourself!
