We had the good fortune of connecting with Tez Lamont and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tez, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think about risks as being an essential part in life. In order to achieve many of life’s goals risks are to be taken as long as the odds seem to be more in favor of success. A few years ago, after much deliberation, I decided to stop living for others so that I could finally start living for myself. Prior to my decision, I had been working retail while simultaneously attending The University of Houston as a Supply Chain Management major. During that time in my life, I knew that abruptly changing the system that I had been accustomed to would be detrimental to myself and others that cared for well-being. However, I inherently knew I would never be able to pardon myself for continuing to allow outside influences to dictate my fate. I took the risk of abandoning all that I had and knew to pursue my passion. In hindsight, I can confidently say that I made the right decision.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Firstly, I’m just excited to be alive and that I get to wake up everyday and do what I want and love to do. There isn’t much that separates me from the next person other than that I actually love what I do. Honestly, everything that I’ve accomplished, up until this point in my life, is absolutely possible for anyone. I’ve gotten to where I’m at today by being myself in any situation I find myself in. It wasn’t easy getting here there were so many little things that had to happen and that I had to go through first. The biggest lesson I’ve learned up until this point is to remain authentically myself and to treat everyone you come in contact with the way you want to be treated. Also, If anyone ever does wrong by you never waste energy trying to get even. Eventually, karma will catch up with them, Ive seen it happen over and over again. In closing, I want everyone to know that anything is possible with hard work and dedication.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly, I hardly ever go out or do anything outside of being in the studio. A good time to me is laying in bed and sleeping, which is something I rarely get to do. If a friend did come to visit me and I had to show them a good time I would let them choose wherever they wanted to go.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many individuals who have played a huge part in my success. If I went down the list we would be here for quite some time. Firstly, I would like to give a shoutout to God for making me the man I am today, and for laying out the blueprint for my life and I know through him all things are possible. I would also like to give the hugest shoutout to my wife for EVERYTHING. I can honestly say that without having her by my side I would have been went crazy. I would also like to give a huge shoutout to my Mother for instilling in me at a young age, through watching how strong of a woman she was and continues to be, the confidence to transcend any unfavorable situation I might find myself in. I would also like to give a shoutout to my brothers/mentors Dilan Rajan and Jason Willams. Without those two providing me with years of specific knowledge pertaining to what I was and currently am trying to pursue, I know that things would not have happened for me as they did. As mentioned before there are countless others who have contributed to my success, just know that if any of you are reading this and I did not mention your name, I have not forgotten about you and what you’ve done for me, and I am forever grateful for each and everyone of you.
