We had the good fortune of connecting with Theodore W Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Theodore W, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
I hear that all you have to is do want you love to make money!!

Doing what you love and making money are two completely different things.

One is enjoyable and the other is a lot of hard work, and you work more than eight hours day!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When I started, I noticed other makers videos, they were well put together, but did not really go into details on their builds. So I took it as my mission to explain everything I do with making a video and not to cut corners.

Be a young man from the Midwest, I suffered of being too humble. When you run your own business, you need to be your own cheerleader because nobody’s gonna do it for you.

Owning your business, you work more than eight hours a day. You work every waking hour. Granted you take time to take care of the family and loved ones. But when are not doing that you’re working.

It’s my mission to take the intimidations at a building your own stuff. When I worked in the movie industry, all trades and techniques we’re protected and treated as secrets. Now, with the power of YouTube, those days are over..

When I was 14 years old, I saw Star Wars! My mind was blown! There was no one to talk to, and how they did it. No books at the library and at this time there was no such thing as the Internet.

I had the passion, and a lot of trial and error, and nothing was going to stop me from making things I wanted to build.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First I would take the to see a movie at the historical Graumans Chinese theater.

Then dinner and drinks at The Formosa cafe on Santa Monica Boulevard. Best Chinese restaurant in West Los Angeles?

During the day we stop by Madame Tussaud’s wax Museum

Plus the Academy museum.

Monday nights get drinks at Wolf & Crane bar. They Specialize in Japanese whiskey.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
That is a great question! I Picked up most of the skills and techniques over the years, working with other people on movie productions. My shout out goes to Bill Doran of Punished Props. He was such a huge help when I started my YouTube channel 9 years ago. I met him in person at a convention, and he invited me to his home. He had a notebook and a pen and said I’m gonna tell you everything you need to know about running a YouTube channel. He did! And so I did everything you told me to do. And also learned along the way.
