We had the good fortune of connecting with Tier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tier, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think it’s important to take risks in life. No matter the outcome, there’s always growth in the end. For me as an entrepreneur, taking risks made me become more resilient. Before branching out and starting my business brand full time in 2013 I was just a participant in class. One week the studio needed a sub for their cardio dance class and because I was always front row the other students and faculty voted that I subbed for the night—who knew this would be the start of my dance fitness career.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the owner and master mind behind TIERTIME Fitness, a dance fitness class created to encourage participants to leave their shame, judgments and limits at the door. TIERTIME Fitness is a dance fitness class like no other – I Promise You That! From the moment the first beat drops until the last stretch in the cool down, the original routines and a combination of authentic hype and love from myself and the participants is what sets me apart from other brands. I got to where I am today by being given the opportunity to sub a class and believing in my craft. Has it been easy? No. I don’t my own studio so I’ve had to make connections along the way to rent space and provide a safe environment for everyone. That alone over the years was a ‘stress-ball-change’ but I always figured out a way. I never gave up. I had to dance. I knew that as much as I used dance as an outlet, my people needed me to be there for them even if it was just for an hour a day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend is coming to town so we’ve already planned to eat healthy so when she lands we can eat at all the hole in the wall food and dessert spots. If there’s a concert happening, we’re going! We’ll dance a little and spend some days at the beach.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without the support of my grandparents and mother I wouldn’t be the woman I am today. My Gramps taught me business, Nana taught me personality and my Mother showed me how to “OWN IT”.
