We had the good fortune of connecting with Tim Kirsch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tim, what is the most important factor behind your success?
People often think of success as achieving a goal that the world puts on a pedestal. I’ve learned to not allow my self-esteem to be contingent on the perspective others or even my own works. As for anyone else, it was an intense journey to discover that my value is not based on my achievements, but on the price paid for me. I see success as the work of God through someone; even better if they are willingly cooperating with the Lord. Everyone is valuable, but achievements with eternal value can only be worked through God Himself, even when people don’t realize He’s been working with them. Jesus taught that many who seem to be first will actually be last, but those who seem to be last may be first. It’s often the things done in love, where no one is seeking a public trophy, which often happens in secret, that are esteemed as success by the witness of Heaven. I hope that everything worked through my life, whether in the public eye through ministry or music, or not, is by the love of God working in me. Christ working through me is 100% the most important factor for true value, for success.

I’ve begun to publish the phrase “The Sound Of Living United To Love”, to describe the music I’m releasing. There is a sound within the sound of our speech, our music, and even who we are overall. It comes from within, which is impacted by what we are yielding to. I grew up listening to all types of genres, then eventually played in bands that covered a very wide spectrum of genres. In my exploration of music, I began noticing that some artists had something special in their sound that couldn’t be mimicked. There were differences from artist to artist, but it was as if those sounds were full of life, love and strength. It was like swimming in clean refreshing water at the perfect temperature. Some of the first artists I noticed this with were saxophonist Kirk Whalum, trumpeter Jesse McGuire (while listening to Tower of Power), and the singer Philip Bailey. I heard Philip Bailey live after opening for Earth, Wind and Fire with the Terry Sims Band, and was astonished when I noticed how impacted the atmosphere was when he improvised singing high notes over the audience. I then started discovering modern gospel music, and noticed that it was especially people who spake in “tongues” who had a drastically different dynamic of power in their sound. It wasn’t until giving my life to Jesus that I realized that what the three afore mentioned artists all had within their sound was that they all love the Lord. I’ve now realized how drastically different the sound is between those who say they know about God, and those who sincerely personally know Him. The invite is wide open to know Him, His Love, and the life He wants to reveal through you. I look forward to working with producers and artists that want to discover and operate in this wonderful possibility of being prophetic musicians.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My dear friend Paul Trinko did come to the LA area! Check out his music!

As with any friend, I’d just want to join them on a God-led adventure! For Paul, that included Seal Beach, Mt Baldy, a movie screening, Urth Caffe, Disneyland, and leading worship together for the National Day of Prayer with the Hollywood Prayer Network.

One of the great things about LA is that there is so much to continually discover! I’d love to hear suggestions. It’s like a Cheesecake Factory menu, where do you even start? Whenever someone comes to visit, it reminds me of my visit before moving here: Appreciating the diversity of people, the glory of the mountains, the quality and options of food, and the beauty of the architecture.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My life is for the praise of God’s grace! Without Him, we are not even dust. There are too many to name that deserve a shoutout, but in honor to those who have been a strong support to me as the musician I’m called to be: much love to my parents, who believe in destiny and gave me room to discover my dreams; to my wife and personal hype woman, Kelry, who stands by me in learning to live through every word that proceeds from the mouth of God; to my dear children Eliana Maci, Miciah Levi, and Stella Noelle, my extremely important purpose and joy; my ministry family in Dan Sherstad Ministries, in being there for one another as we discover destiny in reaching souls in and through Hollywood; and Darrell Ellis with Emerged Music for taking a step of faith to invest in me to release Christian Pop, Crossover and Smooth Jazz!
