We had the good fortune of connecting with Tobias Marx and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tobias, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I always wanted to work for myself since I can think. In my opinion, life is just boring if you got a 9-5 job, usually you do the same thing 5 days a week for 30 years and also earn the same amount of money for 30 years. It’s just so predictable, that’s why I chose to start my own business.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
First of all, I am actually busy with 2 DJ projects. The first one is called “Toby Callum” and the second one is still a secret, but I will start releasing music and playing live shows under a new name very soon.
But I also produce for other artists, so I am making a living out of producing for me and for others and by playing live shows.
I would say that I am at a very professional level now, but it was definitely not easy to get to that level. It took me over 8 years of experience to get to the point where I am now, and sometimes it was really frustrating. But it also was definitely worth it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite cities is Cologne in my home country Germany, I would definitely take my best friend to the legendary “Bootshaus”, that’s a really famous club in Cologne. But Cologne has also got a lot of other cool bars and places, and I just got a very strong emotional connection to that city, so this is the place to be for me!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think one of my closest friends Marcel Trafoier (also known by just “Trafoier”) deserves a big shoutout. He really motivated me to take producing more serious, I think without him I wouldn’t have the life that I got today. I also have to give a shoutout to the school that I am visiting, I am going to the Herman Brood Academy in the Netherlands and it is really super helpful. I am just really thankful that I got the chance to visit that school.
