We had the good fortune of connecting with Tony Galla and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tony, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Never giving up. If you are determined whatever your desire is to become in this life, never get discouraged and always have the faith and attitude that you can succeed no matter what.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been become a very diversified type of musician and entertainer. There are many different forms and types of music that I have had to learn and perform over the years. From starting out with blues artists like BB King and Ray Charles then to be able to do gigs that were thrown my way and shifting to swing and standards like Sinatra and Tony Bennett to R&B songs like Stevie Wonder and the likes all the way to my Italian song list and CD’s that I have recorded has been a very interesting and challenging life career in the music world. Just learning all these different types has really made me succeed and I am very grateful for it. What I have learned along the way is that the more you are determined in whatever you want to achieve in life, there are no boundaries if you dedicate your time and energy to it. I did a gig once for Quincy Jones and after the gig he was sitting at the bar by himself and I said to my piano player, let’s go and just hang with him for a bit. When we got to the bar he was very complimentary about our band and a very nice guy to talk with. Before we left I had to ask him one question. I said, Quincy if you had one bit of advice for us in this music world what would that be?
He said “preparation meets opportunity”, and he smiled and left. That was huge for me. Ever since then I have tried to be prepared for whatever I was called to do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I believe that depending on where they were from I would first take them to some of my favorite restaurants down to the ocean and beaches. I would also take them to some of the famous musical venues such as Vibrato Grill. There are way to many more to name. I would also have them at home to hang out with family and friends
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I would have to thank my Lord and Saviour Jesus for His Love, wisdom and guidance to have achieved the success in life. I would also need to thank my wife for her encouragement, support and time that she has sacrificed for me to have had a successful musical career all these years. Last but not least my gratitude goes out to all the musical friends and acquaintances over the years that have helped me learn to better myself in knowing what choices to make along the way in this business.
