Meet Trevor Legg | Wedding Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Trevor Legg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trevor, why did you pursue a creative career?
To put it simply – it is what I was created to do. It’s how I am wired. I couldn’t fathom doing the same thing every week for decades, like most do. I was encouraged early on to keep creating. Friends and family made it seem like I had a special talent. But no one believed in me more than my dad—he saw my potential long before I did. He is the reason I’m doing what I’m doing today. If I could make him cry after he watched one of my wedding films, that was a green light to keep creating. But even more powerful was the impact on my couples—I found joy in making a piece of art that can transport someone back to those feelings they had on their wedding day. I create because I can’t not create. To ignore this gift would be to sacrifice a part of myself.
This is a question I find myself answering over and over. Sometimes I forget why I create—when life gets hard, confusing, and messy. When self-doubt shows up uninvited, again and again. But even in those moments, I must always find my way back to the reason I started.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m most proud of making the big move to San Diego. After spending nearly 24 years in my hometown, Madison, WI, I knew it was time for a change. I saw the move as a turning point—an opportunity to transform my life for the better. It completely reshaped every aspect of my life, and now, I’m healthier and happier than I’ve ever been. Right now, I’m most excited about the solo road trip I’m taking to Sequoia National Park in March. An opportunity to recenter myself, enjoy nature, and slow down.
I owe a lot to my dad for where I am professionally. He was the one who nurtured my talents and artistry, pushing me to be my best. Progressing in my career hasn’t been easy—there’s always the temptation to compare myself to others, and some seasons, the money just isn’t there. But one thing that has helped me push through challenges is trusting the process of building a sustainable career. I’ve learned to be my own best friend, giving self-compassion, and reminding myself that my career does not define my worth.
One of the biggest lessons I learned after taking over my dad’s wedding videography business is that health is my most valuable asset. Health > money—no question. I had to learn that the hard way after booking 38 weddings in one year—one of my biggest regrets. But at the same time, the money I saved during that season helped me transition to San Diego, so I don’t regret it entirely.
I want the world to know that I am a work in progress. There are days when I struggle to wake up with purpose. Days when my insecurities paralyze me. Days when I feel tempted to take the safer route and settle for a 9–5. Days when I wonder if I have anything of value to offer the world. But in the end, it’s God’s spirit that keeps me going and the rock-solid faith I have that everything will work out. I hope this encourages anyone with similar sentiments. You aren’t alone!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some places I have enjoyed in San Diego-
Watching the Sea Lions in La Jolla, Walking the pier at Imperial Beach, enjoying an In-n-out burger, Salsa Dancing, Mission trails hiking, Torrey Pines, Seaport village, Kate Sessions park, and Sunset cliffs,

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to God. The Creator of all creation, the One who formed me in His image and breathes life into me each day. The ultimate teacher, grace giver, the source of every gift, and the greatest artist of all.
Secondly, shout out to my dad. He is the one who introduced me to wedding filmmaking and allowed me to flourish even when our creative and business ideas collided. He believed in me more than I do and was a constant reminder that I have something special to offer the world.
