We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyra Ajee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyra, how do you think about risk?
Many people when they think of the word “Risk” they see red flags. But not me, I’ve always been a huge risk taker rather the outcome was good or not so good I always seen the light in taking risks. When starting my brand “Clishade” in 2018 it was not only a hustle but I was dedicated to making it more of a lifestyle so i took huge risks by switching things up constantly wondering if my audience would accept the changes. Although I always had support I just wasn’t satisfied, I wanted more for myself. I even took a few steps back to see what it was I really wanted to get into. I literally went ghost with Clishade & I was so nervous thinking people would forget about my brand completely. Finally, I decided to take an even bigger risk by investing into permanent makeup classes and a few non invasive beauty classes, being that I was already somewhat in the beauty industry by selling accessories, everything just flowed naturally. I really felt in my element. Now I’m more than happy that I took a leap of faith, it wasn’t easy but without those risks there wouldn’t be a “Clishade” or “Clishade Beauty Lab” at all.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel as though I’ve always been an artist. I grew up an only child and it would sometimes get lonely so I’d escape the loneliness by doing hair and makeup on my dolls, painting, putting on performances for my mom, & so much MORE. Choosing to enter the world of beauty flowed naturally for me but it is not at all easy. It takes precise time and skill, I overcame these challenges by not losing site of what I wanted in the end which is to provide flawless work that speaks for itself. I’m truly dedicated to set myself aside from others & I feel my creativity and personality does that alone. I’m constantly educating myself to be able to give the best experiences to my clients. I really find passion in enhancing the beauty of others. As someone who has struggled with self esteem it makes me happy to be able to increase the confidence in others.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my daughter Ryse (pronounced Rise) Gianna! Seems cliche; but I was so lost in my career not knowing which way to really go until I found out I was pregnant. She lit a fire in me, I want nothing but the best for her and my family. She is my reason to not give up and to keep pushing myself with no limits. My success, goals, everything is because of her.
