Meet Valerie Alexander | Realtor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Valerie Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi VALERIE, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Although I was born in LA, I was raised in Madison, Wisconsin – land of cheese, sports, down-to-earth nice people, and brutal winters! The winter really does toughen you – and gave me a helpful serving of grit that I carry with me to this day. I was raised by a single mom, doing her best to make ends meet and make sure I had opportunities – one of which was competitive figure skating from age 8 to 18 which taught me dedication and perseverance, and allowed me to exercise my creativity when I choreographed my own routines. In high school, I competed in DECA, a business extracurricular which introduced me to the world of business and found it was my passion. I went to college at University of Wisconsin -Madison, a top academic and D1 sports school and majored in International Business, Marketing, and French. After studying abroad in Paris, I knew I wanted to live in a big city after graduation, so I decided to go back to my roots in California. Although I started my career in corporate retail and fashion, I ultimately found my way to real estate and have never looked back. It allows me to be an entrepreneur and run my own business, something I always wanted to do since my days competing in DECA. As a principal, solo, agent, I am in charge of everything from creating a business plan and budget, marketing my brand and services, and helping my clients execute their real estate goals. My honest and hard-working approach that I bring from Wisconsin and love for LA and experience of living here for the past 17 years, makes me passionate about helping my clients find a home and neighborhood that will match their lifestyle and get them to love LA just as much as I do – all while building their wealth and setting up their family’s future. I’m so grateful to do what I love every day – in the California sunshine 🙂

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I primarily help home buyers and sellers in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, although my work does take me to other parts of LA, Long Beach, the Valley, and beyond. I pride myself on supporting my clients every step of the way – before, during and after the transaction. Many realtors disappear after a transaction is closed, but I really try to keep in touch with my clients and make sure they are always taken care of even after the sale. I am proud to be a solo agent and have complete control over my client’s experience so I can ensure white-glove service from beginning to end. Having built my business from scratch, it hasn’t always been easy. Many agents in our area come from generational real estate families, with connections already made and handed down to them. For me, I had to start from the beginning. I first joined a team to learn the ropes and have great mentors so that I could have a good foundation for my business. Then, when I knew it was time for the butterfly to spread its wings, I left my former team and joined Compass as a solo agent. Compass has proven to be a perfect fit for me, and I am so excited to keep growing my business there and helping my clients with the best tools and resources available.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love taking friends to bike along the Strand in South Bay. It’s an activity that allows you to be outside experiencing the best that California has to offer – the beach! Couple that with authentic tacos for lunch and a fresh sushi dinner – and voila – perfection! Other things I love – a show at the Hollywood Bowl or Pantages Theater, Korean BBQ in Koreatown, a day exploring or hiking in Malibu, a Rams game at SoFi, or checking out one of the many festivals always going on in LA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Melanie Thiel and Linda Plourde – DECA teachers at Madison West High School who helped me find my passion and love for business, putting me on a path to where I belonged
My mom, Vicki Alexander, who showed me hard work and being self-sufficient
