We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Béjine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanessa, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
First and foremost believing in yourself is priority. If you dont believe in yourself enough to make it, how can you convince anyone else to believe in you.

The most important decision I made when finally choosing to go after my dreams and be my own boss, was taking a leap of faith and finally quitting my regular day job so I had more time to pursue my own passions even though I had no other source of income to rely on. I was tired of waking up and doing the same thing over and over like groundhogs day. Going to a job I didnt want to be at, but stayed for the sake of finances.

The unknown can be scary, but I believed in myself enough to know that if I put in the work and with Gods hand, I could do it. I knew it wasnt going to be easy, but it would be worth it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As an artist I want to do my best to create positive music. Even if it starts off sad, but has a happy ending. lol. I like to write based off my own experiences. I feel it has a tendency of delivering so much emotion that even the listener can feel what you are feeling. Whether that be happy, sad, confused etc

This journey has been anything but easy, and though I am far from where I want to be, I have come a long way. In my music I sing about my story of defeat. What Ive been through and what its taken to get me this far. How I overcame so many battles and obstacles that tried to crush me while climbing to the top but failed.

I am proud of myself for not giving up. For getting knocked down but rising up even stronger each time due to the grace of God. It is humbling and has taught me resilience. I want to inspire others that if I can do it, so can they.

You connect with listeners when you are relatable. Not only in music, but in life. If someone shares the same interests as you, same beliefs, same addictions, health issues, heartache, friends and so forth. You tend to build an immediate connection. That is what I want with my music. To build connections. Inspire. Motivate.

We all have a story…mine is shared through music.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Haha, this is funny, because whenever a friend or family member is in town I never know what to do, lol. Im always like, “so what do you wana do?”

I would most likely set up brunch & high tea at the Peninsula for the first day. A nice hike at Topanga Canyon where you can see an amazing view of Malibu, Santa Monica and Topanga Canyons all at the same time. Then a lovely dinner at the Perch where you get an incredible view of the city.
Some live music would definitely be in there, sunset horseback riding through Hollywood hills, lots of food and desserts. Im a huge dessert person (as most know) so Sugar Factory would definitely be in the mix. Along with Katsuya and Aroma Coffee & Tea. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Support is everything in this industry. Without it…we’re nothing. God has definitely been my main source of strength through this journey, carrying me when I thought about giving up or felt alone, but a few shoutouts are definitely in order for those who have believed in me from the gate and/or supported me, not just with words, but actions. Sharing my music, showing up at shows, cheering me on when I have achievements etc. Its more important than some people realize.

So a special thank you to my mom and brothers, Excelsion Inc., Western Security, Cathy J Hood, Ryan Ferro and Amirah Music. Much love.
