We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Delgado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vanessa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It was more of a hurried trauma response to quitting a job in a toxic environment. I wanted to get up and running as soon as possible, so my clients and anyone else could find me if they looked. But I wanted to be an accessible price point for those who want luxury spa experience but can’t afford it, so I had to really plan quick.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am a licensed Aesthetician of 5 years. My focus is on skin health management, through use of clinical and holistic treatments and products. Clinical in the sense of the science of some brands I work with, and the skin revision possible. The holistic focus is on ingredients that work with the biochemistry of the body, as well studying and incorporating sculpting facial massage into treatments. My specific journey has been interesting, and I’ve faced certain adversities along the way as someone who is working through having people pleasing tendencies. Coupled with severe anxiety. Some of the specific challenges in my industry have come with the personalities and entitlements of others. My field can be perceived as competitive, it’s something I give no energy to because I truly believe there are enough clients for everyone. But most of the challenges have been centered around someone else feeling competitive, when I didn’t. I’m a peaceful dude, so when someone rocks the boat, I just get off. I’ve left jobs because of others and my need to preserve my peace, and that’s okay. It wasn’t meant to be. That’s the biggest lesson I’ve learned though, what is meant to be will be eventually. Don’t let those things stop your journey, it was only a stepping stone. I would like the world to know how hard I work, and how much I care. That’s what I pour into my brand, my whole heart. Somewhere you are safe, loved, and cared for. That’s Skin Dream.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success to this point has been accomplished because of the support of my friends and family. Doing things to directly help me make things happens or giving me those words of encouragement. Sounds really vanilla and generic when read, but more specifically described can be like my husband maxing out his credit card to buy me a piece of equipment. Because mine were already maxed, and this is “our journey”. Or, my dad telling me that “it will all be worth it” when I’m crying about having nothing. My little sisters telling me how proud they are of me for taking this chance of starting a business. Friends booking appointments with me and giving ME their money because they believe in my skills. All of that and hundreds of acts like that from those around me are what have brought me here, and keep me going places.
