We had the good fortune of connecting with Damiyon “D.Kidd” Morgan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Damiyon “D.Kidd”, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I believe over the years I learned to develop the two P’s. The first is Preparation. Preparing yourself for anything in life is important because it increases your chances at success. We all want success, but only a few are willing to put in the work to get it. With being an actor preparation is key. Whether it means rehearsing lines for hours or standing in front of a mirror practicing emotions. The second is Perseverance. It’s so easy to give up when you fail, and in this industry, failure is guaranteed. I personally don’t believe in failure, it’s either you succeed, or you learn. But that’s why I love what I do, because I know it isn’t easy, and that’s okay. Because anything that’s easy isn’t worth accomplishing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think the thing that sets me apart from others is my willingness to not give up. I know success isn’t going to happen overnight, it’s a process that you have to continue to work towards. I believe I got where I am today just by always wanting to learn and get better. It’s easy to get comfortable doing something you always knew, but I knew I wanted more. Music will always be my passion, but I wanted to try something new and challenge myself. So, becoming an actor wasn’t easy, but I went to acting school and took the necessary steps to become successful. I think the main lesson I’ve learned so far is to be patient. To master something takes time, and often I lose sight of that. But I’m proud of where I’ve been and how far I’ve come. I played a lead role in a few movies within my first year of acting. And I’m really excited for all the roles to come in the future.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite place in the city is the beach. I think the best vibes, and best people are there. The beauty about the beach is it doesn’t matter what type of mood you’re in. Whether you want to get in the water or just hang out on the sand and relax; it’s the perfect place to do everything. Not to mention the great bars and restaurants.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my mother. My mother is definitely the strongest person I know. She was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago, and even when things got tough, she showed her strength. I believe that’s where I got my strength from. Aside from that she has always been very supportive in all my endeavors. If I only have a little success, I want to thank my mom for always pushing me to keep going and accomplish my goals. I also want to want to thank my uncle Derek that passed away. He was a such a fan of movies, and I know if he was still alive, he would be proud of me.
