Meet Veronica Wood | Filmmaker and Creator of Light&Noise

We had the good fortune of connecting with Veronica Wood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Veronica, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
It’s the boring things, the habits and the systems, that have supported me the most. Sometimes it’s the things we make the least fuss of that keep us afloat at that act two “all is lost” moment. One of the most stabilizing and ship-saving habits is my accountability partner check in. Every Monday to Friday at 7am, I call my friend who also has his own, very different, business he’s also building. We ask each other whats working/not working and why? Where are we feeling stuck? When to keep pushing or when to relax? It’s not a clear roadmap when you’re building your own business, and feedback sounds a lot better from a friend than in the echo chamber of your mind. And when you open these essential questions into the air, you also get to notice patterns and cycles, and the power of harnessing your own personal rhythm. We have been doing this for a year and a half now, and I think we’ve maybe only missed a handful of days. And bonus, you grow a stronger and deeper friendship getting to actively support someone you love. Highly recommend.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I work as a filmmaker creating cinematic content for brands. I started my company Light&Noise to encourage companies to turn to filmmakers for more captivating content. Maybe its just me but I’ve seen a lot of brands churning out very lazy content, which gives safe results but not big wins, and we don’t love to watch.. And these days, much of the content we consume is actually advertising – so why not make branded content a lot more interesting and artistic?
There have been many lessons on the way, and sometimes running the business is the ultimate transformative tool – its not about the result of the work, its about who you become in order to get the result. I’ve stepped into leadership roles I never thought I would, and grew myself because that was what was required of me. And if you’re lucky enough to fall into one of these holes in fate where your passion meets your reality, you better follow as far as it takes you.
Besides working on building Light&Noise, I am also making time for my own creative projects. Right now I’m in the process of developing a TV docu-series about creation myths and how indigenous storytelling can open up a personal line of inquiry into our place in the cosmos. I am planning to travel to eight countries to document myths from local storytellers. Combined with surrealist animation and ontological themes, perhaps we can see a spark of some larger human universality. Or at least a glimpse. Thats the journey – seeking the borderline of the unknown.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh who doesn’t love this! I’ve actually lived several different parts of LA – first Playa del Rey, then Culver, Silverlake, Downtown and currently back to the beach in Venice. Thats what I love about LA, you can move 15 minutes yet feel another world away. It definitely satisfies an adventurous spirit. With that said, I’d recommend a morning hike in Malibu like Solstice Canyon or Los Liones. The LACMA. The Hollywood Farmers Market. A stroll through the Self Realization fellowship in Mt Washington. And a DTLA warehouse party so as not to get be toooo healthy.
