Meet Vincent Lanty: Pianist & Musical Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vincent Lanty and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vincent, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I grew up in a creative environment raised by a single mother who was a screenwriter. I started playing the piano at age 6 and only one year later, was admitted at the “Conservatoire Superior of Music” in Paris, France’s most prominent music institution. It was clear to my teachers and everyone around me that i would become a musician. I entered a Christian school at age 11 where i developed an appetite for choirs. Maybe this is why I love harmonies so much today ! I can’t really answer “why” I pursued an artistic career .. it was obvious that this was going to be my every day job.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In 2006, I passed the entry exam to the elite French music school ATLA, where i studied until 2008. I graduated with First Prize Honors, a recognition I received in front of an amphitheater packed with France’s most established music agents and producers seeking out the next best talent in the industry. After graduating, I was offered to play in the most prominent piano bars in Paris. Among them, “Le Duc Des Lombards”, a world-renowned, legendary Jazz Club, where the owner himself asked me to perform. There, i honed my piano playing and arrangement skills and developed a strong following among music professionals and customers alike.
Witness of my performance, the man who would later become my manager Dominique Duforest hired me to play the piano on France’s biggest entertainment television show – Star Academy (7 million viewers on average that year).
Only a few weeks after my first show on television, i was offered to join international pop star Rihanna’s band by her manager Marc Jordan. Mr. Jordan had loved my performance and wanted Rihanna to be surrounded by the best possible musicians when performing on the show a few weeks later. And so, at age 22, only a year after graduating, i found myself performing for one of the biggest pop stars of the decade, on the most watched television show in France. Both my manager and Rihanna’s manager acknowledged i was an incredibly skilled pianist. It was the start of my music television career, a gateway to working with many more French and international artists.
Since then, I had the chance to collaborate with many world-renowned directors, producers, singers as well as A-list industry composers who each trusted my creativity and deep understanding of contemporary arrangements. My work as a pianist, producing and songwriting credits include Rihanna, Carly Rae Jepsen, Nelly Furtado, Robin Thicke, One Direction, Celine Dion, Little Mix, Rita Ora, Alessia Cara, Cris Cab, As Animals, Lou and many others.
In the past 12 years, I have also been expanding my range of capabilities, running studio sessions with orchestras, and leading live bands for major television shows like «The Voice». From 2015 to 2018, i was hired as Musical Director and Lead Pianist on Résiste, France’s biggest musical ever, with more than 200 shows across the country.
I also worked with French pop-star Lou (The Voice finalist – 2016). I composed and produced her 2 biggest hit songs including her first single “Qui Pourrait”. The song made it to #6 in the French charts and sold over 50,000 copies which helped me net a gold certification, France’s most sought-after recognition for best-selling albums.
I can’t say that I have been struggling for jobs so far. I got fortunate enough!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
exciting ! alright I’d pick my friend up at the airport and we would go straight to the ocean for a quick lunch at Urth Café (2327 Main St, Santa Monica, CA 90405) then we would go for a bath at the beach, I love going to Annenberg Community Beach House, it’s more quiet. I’d take my friend for a walk in the Hollywood Hills and watch the sun set.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
