Meet Tesha Smith | Entrepreneur & Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tesha Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tesha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process for starting my business was to create internal fulfillment while providing unique and affordable designs that would increase confidence in my consumers. I was craving a sense of purpose and passion. I was dealing with depression and anxiety and I needed a creative outlet to create something that would bring myself and the world joy. I decided to focus my business around T-shirts because they were always my first choice from my wardrobe and as I continued to purchase them from other companies I wanted to create my own to reflect my design aesthetics. I knew that the niche for Tye dye T-shirts was not oversaturated. I decided to create bleached and Tye dye T-shirts to separate myself from my competition.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets my business apart from others is it’s unique ability to offer Tye dye Distressed and bleach patterns of T-shirts for people from all walks of life and all interests. Unlike other companies I offer amazing quality material, customer service and design at an affordable price as well as custom printing for tshirts and outerwear. I also think that what sets my brand apart from other boutiques is that I offer children’s, Womens and men’s shirts. What I am most proud of is the fact that I created my brand and built it to the status it is now, solely on my own, without any outside capitol, investment or assistance. I am proud that no matter how many obstacles I encountered I never quit or shut my business down. I got to where I am today by investing in myself and my craft, educating myself, staying consistent and stay creative. When I encountered difficulties I prayed, drew closer to god, nature and the universe. I would take time in nature to find my happy place and remember my “why”. Along the way I’ve learned so many lessons. To begin, I learned not to be consumed by my business, I realized that I have a business but I am not my business. This was a super important lesson I learned because if my business had a bad day or month, then I would have a bad day also. My business defined my identity for awhile because I loved it so much. I had to teach myself to separate who I am as a person from the highs and lows of business. I also learned how important balance is. It’s so important to incorporate work and personal time. It’s important to make sure you make time for the people and things in your life that matter to you. I want people to know about myself and my business that I am resilient, I am dedicated and I am passionate about creating clothing that makes people feel good and creates confidence and happiness.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My idea for a great week always includes good food and great scenery. I would start off the visit with a trip to Manhattan Beach. This is one of my favorite Los Angeles County beaches because of the amazing views, food and ambiance. I would plan a walk on the trail called , “The Strand” which features beautiful beach mansions. I love this trail because it gives me inspiration and reminders of what I aspire to attain in life when I feel discouraged or unmotivated. I would follow the walk with a sunset yoga session and meditation. The next day would be a hike to the Griffith Observatory. This beautiful trail overlooks the entire city and the Hollywood sign. Day three and four would be a Malibu Getaway. Malibu is my second favorite beach. The water is so clear that you can see the fish swimming in it, in addition to the amazing views of the ocean and the scenery. I would plan a beach day of lounging and leisure with my friend followed by a great beach photoshoot. The second day in Malibu we would go to the restaurant called Malibu Farm, which is an organismic vegan restaurant located right on the pier, overlooking the entire ocean. The last few days would encompass a downtown exploration of the Fashion District, to find cute and affordable fashion. I would also incorporate dinner at a few of my favorite restaurants including Javiers in Newport Beach and A Long Beach harbor cruise followed by dinner with a view at Parker’s Lighthouse

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to content creation and marketing firm, TS Branding Solutions. They provided me with amazing content and branding solutions to increase brand awareness and strengthen my advertising.
