We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendy Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wendy, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
Baking was always an interest of mine since childhood. It was a hobby and then when I started having children I would bake for them all the time. I started this business for my family as extra income at first. I always dreamed of having a bakery so with the support of my wonderful husband and nine amazing children, in late 2019, I started Ever After Bakery out of my home kitchen, and I was off to a slow start. As misfortune would have it the pandemic hit early 2020 and Ever After Bakery was at a standstill. It was very discouraging to say the least and the pandemic brought forth many challenges, losses, and set backs in many ways and as it turned out Ever After became our means to provide for the family. I believe my children can see how much hard work you need to put into life. They see that if you want something you can do it if you set your mind to it. With hard work and determination you can make anything happen. You just have to keep moving forward, never stopping, no matter what obstacles lie ahead. Just keep moving forward and learn to adapt when necessary. I try to show them to keep positive always in life and that it is important to surround yourself with positive people who believe in you and build you up. If people don’t believe in you that is fine but it doesn’t mean that they are right. We are working hard together as a family and benefiting ourselves and not working for someone else to benefit them. I think the impact of starting Ever After Bakery will change our lives for the utmost best.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make custom treats for all celebrations and everything I make is custom. I take what ideas my clients have and turn them into delicious edible art pieces. My goal is to create a one of a kind dessert experience for every individual, a center piece dessert creation that WOWS your guests, a conversation starter, a unique show stopper. My desserts don’t only look great but they taste great as well. That is extremely important to me. Let’s face it, the reason why you want to stuff your face with a great tasting birthday cake is because it tastes great and not because it looks like a statue in an art museum! Although that would be cool too! I use the best quality ingredients that I can get my hands on and my recipes were born from my very own tried, true, and deliberate recipes. Being a baker and decorator is not easy. I am completely self taught and am constantly learning. I’m always keeping up with dessert trends, new flavor combinations, decorating styles, techniques, and using different decorating mediums. Along with following local health and food safety laws that allow me to bake and sell from my home there are certain baking/decorating processes that must be adhered to that I think most people do not understand. So much hard work and so many long hours go into making these desserts look the way they do. But I’m happy to do it. I am just a regular person that believes that everyday should be a celebration of Life

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
All of my favorite spots in LA hold special memories with my family. I Love spending every moment I can with my husband and children taking in the fresh air and beauty around us. That said my go to spots are always visiting the LA Zoo, the Aquarium of the Pacific, spending the weekend at Six Flags Magic Mountain (the real happiest place on earth!), star gazing at Griffith Park Observatory, or catching an awesome family movie at El Capitan theatre, or simply long strolls along the beautiful beaches or local parks! You can find beauty in even the simplest things.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a major shoutout to my husband and children. They are the reason why I am doing this AND they have been my major supporters since day one. When I first entertained the thought of starting a bakery it was my husband who said that I should do it. We were all together when we unanimously voted “Ever After Bakery” as the new name of the business that only existed in our minds. And now, today together, we are a family of bakers and artisans baking and creating. They believed in me when nobody else did. They believe in me when no one else does! I’m happy to say that I now have customers that were strangers but are returning over and over and trust me to provide the desserts for their important celebrations. That means so much to me so I also want to give a major shout out to my returning customers and to my number one fans, my Husband and kids!
