Meet Wendy Tigerman | Advertising Creative Director/Radio Writer and Producer, Mixed Media Artist.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendy Tigerman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wendy, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I’ve had some success selling my art. And my collage book will be published within the next few weeks. The marketing for that is mostly reliant on the website I administrate that has almost 15,000 artistic members. In general, personal sales have almost always come from being accepted into shows and stimulating interest.
Prior to that, in running my business, Tiger Radio, I think that intimacy is the most important factor behind success. Developing a personal relationship with one’s clients. I remember once dealing with an ad agency producer that was cold as ice. I actually asked her if this was who she was when she went home. She said, no, but this is business. She immediately sighed a huge sigh of relief and from then on was human and a delight to work with.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
With my advertising work (Creative and Marketing Director, Radio writer and producer) I worked at a great place and when I left, all of “my” clients came with me. I did not urge them to do so.
I was just really good at it. How did I know? Well they were comedy spots and they made me guffaw. I treated the actors with respect and became friends with most of them. I took an improv class and that informed my work. I also had an associate writer/producer, Becky Bonar, whom I couldn’t have lived without.
Presently I am getting a book published that I’m really excited about. It’s called Collage to the Rescue and has original dog themed collages by differed artists whom I met administrating a 14,000+ member collage FB page. That will primarily be where I market the book. I will also contact rescue organizations to see if they will sell the book on their websites. And, I will attend rescue oriented gatherings, set up a table, and sell there. 50% of the book’s profit will go to rescue organizations.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Los Angeles, so the choices are endless. We’d go to all the art museums and many galleries (I’m in one in particular, the TAG gallery on Wilshire.) We’d eat at places elegant to street friendly. There are food trucks everywhere and they are delish. Kinda fancy places include The Little Door, Providence, and République. Also, less fancy, Ca’ del Sol, Mercado, Firefly, the Front Yard, and Art’s Deli. We’d catch some music at The Hollywood Bowl. Maybe a play at the Pantages. We’d hang at my house in the gardens — our place was built in 1926 and is adorbs. I’d have a dinner party to introduce her/them to my fabulous friends. Oh, and I love Olvera Street and Disneyland. Yup, I said Disneyland. Yikes, I almost forgot to mention, we’d get great seats and go to a Dodgers game!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Marvin Himmelfarb was a well known comedy radio spot producer who hired me even though I had never produced a single spot. He recognized my potential.
Collage Artists of America has been encouraging and appreciative of my mixed media work. Also the Collage Artists of America FB page. These have helped me during rough times.
