We had the good fortune of connecting with Wil$on and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wil$on, what do you want people to remember about you?
I think I want to be known for helping others. Ive had good people look out for me in my career and I just want to pay that forward. If you ask anyone who knows me if I can throw a lob I definitely will. I don’t want anything in return either I just want to see other black people attain their dreams.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So im a rapper and what I think sets me apart from others is the honesty in my music. Im not trying to sugarcoat or hype up anything. Ive been broke, heartbroken etc etc and its all in the music. I figure more people relate to that than Lambos and rolexs lol. The road to becoming a big artist has been tough, I’ve been led on more times than I can count to be honest. There’s always somebody who has a cousin that’s does this or knows somebody “Important” but I wouldn’t trade my journey for anything because I don’t think I was as prepared as I am now.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely taking them to a lot of black owned spots in the city. Breakfast at Serving spoon and dinner at Alta. Been a lot of parties popping up over the city again so maybe take them to Link Up, Donovans Yard or anything Dj Casanova or Early Hall are having.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Two brothers named Cook&Jango. I started making music with them in 2014 but we all went to high school with each other before that. Literally if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be doing anything im doing now. They helped me open my eyes to a whole other world outside of South Central; I never thought I could model and they intro’d me to. the lady who got me started!
