We had the good fortune of connecting with Wolfgang Brardt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wolfgang, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the success behind 86’D Mag is that we’re authentically being original. Basically just brings ourselves and expressing that to the fullest. Being cool is really just being authentic and original to your own unique self.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
86’D started as an art project I was doing on the side. After I actually screen printed some clothing it came to life. Making the art came easy but proving it was something more then an art project or clothing brand was hard. I had to dig deep and figure out how to package my artistic expression thru another medium. I would love the world to know you just have to find what your passionate about, it’s cliche but it’s true. Find your passion and do it to the fullest. Don’t be scared to aim high. I knew people would think the size of my Mag was small, I knew they’d call it a “zine” as if it were something for fun or amateur. But I called it a Magazine from day one and it became a magazine from day one.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love when people visit me in Long Beach. I’m passionate about where I live and what I like to do so I always honor the opportunity to share the city I call home. I’d start out at Rose Park coffee with some of the best espresso out. Then, we’d go skate around somewhere beautiful. Bbq at the bluff as the sunsets. Then go out for a night on the town usually hit Goodbar and find a spot doing karaoke for the night.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to take this opportunity to shoutout everyone that has show support to the mag by coming out to our release parties and events consistently. 86’D Mag would be nothing without the support of specifically the Long Beach scene. The energy has been infectious and now I continue to make a print mag in 2022 for the people that support it. Y’all make me feel special.
