We had the good fortune of connecting with Yancarlos Jimenez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yancarlos, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Building a brand with a unique art style that would spark new interest within the younger generation but also keep the interest of an older audience, using silk screened t-shirts and Children’s books as our chosen canvas to help engage and build a platform to inspire a bigger following towards the beautiful Mexican American culture. Having a son who is on the spectrum required our family to look at the values of our own history and the many different customs passed down from one generation to another. Helping us to create a new outlook on life and changed the way we view art and history within our own culture. This is our way of contributing and keeping our culture alive.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The chosen art style that we embraced is a more of a bold and whimsical art style. each character having a dynamic pose and outlined with thick bold linework. The Character designs are a tribute to the graffiti artist and their style of character designs that would fill the trains of New York city subways during the 1980’s. Using this particular art style and fusing it with a variety of iconic figures from Mexican American history and culture, with a focus on designing these art pieces in a respectful tribute to the historical custom of the holiday of Day of the Dead. We are very proud to be able to add and help contribute to so many aspects of our customs and culture. Shop Cultura is still fairly new and we are continually adding new designs and content in one form or another, we have big plans for the future and would like to invite everyone to join us in our journey as we continue to create great artwork and content focused within the Mexican American culture!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
None that come to mind.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A big shout out to all of our friends and family for the continued support! and to all our followers and supporters a big thanks and we hope you all continue to support our content and art. and a special shout out to our son who through all our long nights of content creating and live events he has stood by our side with encouragement and support.
