We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Amor-Smart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Baking has always been an outlet for me. I bake just for fun, to relieve stress, or just because. I’d always wanted to have my own bakery or restaurant but never seriously acted on it until 2018.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Bossy Bundts is a bakery business that specializes in Bundt cakes of all shapes and sizes. We are known for our Strawberry Crunch Mini Bundts & Peach Cobbler. What sets us apart is that we don’t view other local bakers as competitors. We value collaboration over competition because there’s always room to grow, learn from your peers, and build solid relationships in your industry. In 2020, we started doing pop ups with For the People Market in Carson and it has been a huge platform for us to grow our customer base. Now, they have moved into the Southbay Galleria in Redondo Beach and it’s really exciting to be a vendor in their storefront once or twice a month, sharing our desserts with new customers.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I prefer staying home and staying local nowadays – even before corona. But, if we were to go somewhere to eat I’d take them to Hiccups in Carson and for drinks we’d have to go to Keegan’s in Torrance.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family definitely deserves credit in my story – the Bossy Bundts story. My mother, my sisters, my husband, my three children, nieces, nephews, and two of my best friends — they all support me. From picking up ingredients, taste testing and brainstorming, delivering, to helping me make sales to their coworkers. Their support is everything.
