We had the good fortune of connecting with Ye Wang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ye, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My passion for fashion started like most people’s—with an interest in styling myself. But what truly led me to create clothing was my unique perspective on New York’s underground fashion scene. Growing up in Shanghai, I was exposed to a different cultural and artistic landscape, which shaped my distinct aesthetic. I also noticed a lack of Chinese representation in both New York and global fashion. That’s why I wanted to be that voice—to bring a new vision into the conversation.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Before discovering fashion, I was actually quite lazy—something every teacher I ever had would say about me, lol. But fashion was the first thing that made me want to dedicate endless hours to it. I’ll never forget the moment I tried on the first piece I was truly proud of. It was a surreal feeling, and I’m grateful that my passion is fashion. Whether I’m on my phone, I’m looking at fashion; when I have free time, I’m sewing. That, I believe, is my biggest advantage—because in other words, I’m constantly improving.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d invite him over and cook for him. Lately, I’ve been really into cooking, haha. I actually want more of my friends to come over and try my food. Most of the them will probably not believe that i am chief lol. Also I’m not the biggest fan of going out unless there’s a specific event. Staying in with friends makes me feel genuinely happy.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m grateful that when I first arrived in New York, I met a group of friends who truly supported me. They reinforced my belief that there’s space for more Asian representation in New York fashion. Shane, Yasus, Kove, and Yanli—their early support and encouragement helped bring my work to a wider audience. I believe the beginning is always the hardest, but they made that first step much easier for me.
