We had the good fortune of connecting with Young Go and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Young, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
That’s an interesting question, for me that’s almost like asking why do you breathe or what wakes you up every morning or what motivates you to live? I really don’t know if I’m pursuing my art or in some ways, if it’s pursuing me. But if I just to answer the question in an objective way, I would say, I’m just expressing some of my innermost thoughts and I had no intentions initially of making it a career, it sort of just happened naturally. Although my team and I have built an enterprise around my art, the art is the driving force and so without the art, there wouldn’t be anything else I have going. I’m also a relatively new artist and up and coming as it pertains to a career and my team and I’s success is still developing, so I might have a different answer later down the line. In short, this career choice is just driven by my intuitive need as a human being to express myself and its only become a “career” because of how I leverage my art based on the support I get from people who hear it and experience it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My sound is a mixture of all my hip-hop influences. I’m the new era of West Coast gangsta rap with a g-funk twist and careful attention to bars and dropping knowledge. My music reflects my life and my drive to continue along this journey. I am most proud of how far I’ve come, and still long ways to go but I’m ready for it. I’m just excited about the journey I’m on right now and being able to do what I love. How I got to where I am today and was it easy? No it wasn’t easy being one foot in the streets and one foot in the rap career and being incarcerated on a few different occasions which halted my career at many different points. I was experiencing a stall in my music career and almost gave up when my family decided to help me build up my team and I’ve seen the most progress and gradual success. Lessons I learned along the way is to stay consistent and never listen to the side conversations, if it’s not meant to grow or progress you and your dreams, don’t give it any energy. Also, stay down solid because pursuing your dreams and passions is going be a lot of ups and downs, but stay diligent, it will eventually pay off.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To be politically correct because of my section, I would say Yoshinoya, but growing up I always went to Melo burger, it’s on the border line of Inglewood and Lennox. Also the beaches in Los Angeles is a nice place to visit and hang out. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
