What does “Lori Mi” mean, what inspired you to create “Lori Mi,” and what does the song mean to you personally?
“Lori Mi” is a Yoruba phrase that translates to “upon me” or “on me.” The song “Lori Mi” was inspired by my journey and faith. It’s a song that speaks to the blessings, love, and protection I feel around me, despite life’s ups and downs. It’s deeply personal because it’s a reminder to trust in God and stay grounded in my roots.
“Lori Mi” has a strong spiritual vibe. Was there a specific moment or experience that led you to write this song?
Yes, I had a few challenging moments in the past year where I had to rely on faith and family. That experience brought me back to my foundation of Jesus Christ, and “Lori Mi” became a way to express gratitude for the guidance and protection I felt in those times.
How has being Nigerian-American influenced the way you create music, especially in songs like “Lori Mi”?
It gives me a unique perspective. I grew up with Nigerian culture in my home but lived in California, so my music reflects both worlds. “Lori Mi” has that spiritual, African vibe but also resonates with a Western audience.
You’re being recognized as California’s top Afrobeats artists. How does it feel to represent Nigerian culture in the U.S. music scene?
It’s an honor and a big responsibility. I want to be a bridge between the two cultures and show people the beauty of Afrobeats and Nigerian traditions, especially in places that may not be as familiar with it.
What do you hope listeners feel or understand about you as an artist when they hear “Lori Mi”?
I hope they feel the authenticity and see that I’m an artist who values his heritage. I want them to feel the gratitude, joy, and pride that comes from embracing where you come from.
