Meet Yusi Liu | film/video game composer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yusi Liu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yusi, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve been drawn to art for as long as I can remember, and I believe it’s in my blood. Both of my grandparents were painters, so I grew up surrounded by their works, which had a profound impact on me. My mom, who is a dancer, also played a significant role in shaping my love for the arts. When I was young and my mom had no one to help babysit me, I would spend every Saturday and Sunday night in her dance class. During those classes, when I heard the classical music accompanying the dances, I felt a strong resonance in my mind, a deep joy that resonated with me. This experience was profound and stayed with me, influencing my connection to music and art. Similarly, when I was a kid learning to play the piano, I felt a similar resonance, even though I initially hated practicing. This early exposure to music, dance, and painting has had a lasting impact on my life and my choice to pursue a career in the arts.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Becoming a musician is never easy; there are many challenges to overcome. However, I am proud that I will never lose my passion for music and art. I will always remain curious, eager to learn and grow. I am grateful for how far I have come, and I am committed to continuing my creative journey to explore myself further. This journey is not just about music; it’s about discovering who I am and what I can achieve. In the same vein, I believe that I could bring a positive influence to certain people and make them resonate with my creations. I want to share my positive values through music, to inspire and uplift others, and to spread joy, hope, and inspiration to those who listen
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friends visit Seattle, I would love to show them the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. We could start by exploring the stunning mountain ranges nearby, where we could hike and immerse ourselves in the natural beauty of the area. For those who enjoy skiing, we could hit the slopes and experience the thrill of skiing down the mountainside. After a day of adventure, we could relax and unwind by visiting one of the natural hot springs in the area, soaking in the warm, soothing waters while surrounded by the serene beauty of nature. Seattle has so much to offer, and I would be thrilled to share these nature experiences with my friends
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I believe that one’s environment plays a crucial role in shaping them. The people around me—my family, friends, and teachers—have had a profound influence on my creativity and artistic perspective. The inspiration from my family’s paintings and dance has immersed me in a world of creativity. The support and encouragement from my friends have motivated me to explore new forms of art. And the guidance and teachings from my teacher, Huck Hodge, have taught me how to turn ideas into reality, how to express inner emotions and thoughts through art. His dedication to teaching and his innovative approach to music have had a profound impact on me, and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn from him. My heartfelt thanks to all of them for their support, encouragement, and inspiration
