We had the good fortune of connecting with Zac Maywood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zac, how does your business help the community?
When people think of ramen, the first image that pops into their head is of the instant variety. At least, that’s what I use to think. But, now I’m here to show people all the delicious varieties of ramen and what shops are serving them up.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
By day I work in FinTech building trading tools for investment firms. This work is challenging and can be all-consuming. But, I still find myself thinking about ramen while working. You can say I’ve become a real “ramen head”. My ramen obsession began on my first trip to Japan in 2016. On the trip, I discovered that ramen comes in many different varieties and styles. My mission since this fateful trip is to try all the ramen available and share that with the world.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first spot I would take visitors to would be Malibu Farm for an early breakfast to enjoy an amazing meal overlooking the water on the pier. Then I would drive a mile north to the Malibu Country Mart so my visitors could do some shopping at some local stores. To wind down I’d head back to the Venice Beach area to take a long walk along the beach, find a spot to grab some libations, and engaging in some people watching. Finally, I’d finish the day off with some ramen at one of my favorite shops, Venice ramen.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife is very supportive of my ramen obsession. She was the one that really introduced me to ramen during my first trip to Japan in 2016. She’s always really helpful in taking photos and videos that I share on instagram and that’s a driving force behind the content I’ve been sharing.
