We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Gallagher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For me, I wanted to be the role model I needed when I was growing up. I struggled severely with chronic anxiety/panic attacks as a teenager and felt that there weren’t enough open conversations about mental health or loving yourself. I know how badly I needed someone to tell me, “Megan, you are beautiful, smart, important and you will accomplish big things. It’s okay if you don’t resonate with academics- go follow your passions”.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Well what separates me from other female motivational speakers is the fact that 1.) I’m young, I’m 24 and 2.) I’ve given two TED talks and written 4 books! I also have walked the walk. My whole entire life I’ve struggled with chronic, daily anticipatory anxiety and panic attacks. So, for teenagers, It’s refreshing for me to come in and speak because I’ve been there and I’m close to them in age! I make it very fun, comfortable and just an open chat! Honestly, I’ve gotten to where I am by working hard, consistent and not giving up until I got what I wanted. I just know there’s always a way to get to where you want to be. I open all the doors and don’t stop. In the beginning, I was 19, speaking at local ymca’s and boys girls clubs down the street from me and I just kept at it! I networked a lot, made business cards… I think what makes me successful is just my personality and my attitude. I’m a go-getter and confident! That makes the whole difference, I have a bubbly, fun personality and I carry myself with good energy and poise. I really care about helping others, especially teenagers! The one thing that has helped me become successful is focusing on what I WANT. I am a huge believer in energy, manifesting and vision boards-so I know how powerful my mind is. I choose to focus on what I want/how it would feel having my dreams come true and they do!
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Hmmmmm…. I love Los Angeles! I’ve been here for 6 years! I would first take them to the Beverly Hills Hotel for lunch by the pool because it’s so iconic and cute(perfect for an instagram pic). Then, I would take them and drive all the way up Sunset Blvd, starting from the PCH in Malibu to Downtown LA. With the roof down, I have a fun topless Jeep wrangler! I also love Erewhon & Kreation for some healthy juices/snacks! I would take them to E.P&L.P, Mama Shelter, Oscar Cervetica, Faith + Flower, Gwen or Crossroads for dinner! My favorite bakery is Erin McKenna’s! It’s this AMAZING vegan, healthy bakery that looks like a 50’s diner!! I would take them walking down Larchmont & Abbott Kinney(both super cute streets). I love hiking too- so I would take them on a long hike in the gorgeous pacific palisades!! It has a view of the ocean the entire way up! I think it’s SO fun to grab a drink or mocktail at a fancy hotel, like Chateu or Bel Air, and just sit and people watch! I love dressing up with my girlfriends and just going to these 5 star, lavish hotels and just manifest!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother!! Courtney Hagglund Gallagher. She is my momager!! She is my own personal Kris Jenner. She is so smart, intuitive and really business savvy. She taught me so much about being persistent and getting comfortable with asking for what you need. She is such a positive influence in my life, she always knows what to say to calm me down and she is my biggest cheerleader. She literally has reviewed every contract, email, etc with me and since I am still young(24) I am still learning a lot about the writing, speaking, modeling world and she is very direct and great at communicating!
