To persevere or to pivot is a question that do-ers have been asking themselves since the beginning of time. It’s never a straight road when you are doing something new, blazing a trail, breaking a ceiling, or pushing boundaries, so it’s only natural to wonder whether to give up midway. Since I was a teenager, I have firmly believed in the idea of not becoming stagnant. When I find myself feeling too comfortable (or uncomfortable) in one place, I make an effort to move and start over.

The thought of my work becoming stagnant terrifies me, and that fear has driven me to move to different cities multiple times. Starting from scratch is not easy. Not knowing anyone, having no contacts. While I can be certain of the love and support of my family and friends, they are often far away, and we all know there comes a specific point in life when you only have yourself to rely on. Sometimes when I start a drawing or an illustration I can tell very quickly if it’s going to work. When it’s too difficult to move forward or I start to feel uncomfortable when drawing, I realize that something isn’t working and I prefer to discard it and start over.
