Pivot or Persevere?

To pivot or to persevere? Or more bluntly – to give up or to not to give up? This is a haunting question, a question that has ramifications far after an answer has been chosen and it’s also a question that almost everyone in our community has had to face at one time or another. How do you know when to give up and when to keep trying?

Well there is never going to be an obvious answer to this question. For me, when I first started to learn music production, I never received any form of validation apart from my parents, of course, nor did I look for one. I was always trying to learn, study and perfect my craft until I became confident in myself and my skills. Only after 6 or 7 years of producing music and constant learning was I finally able to get the validation from people, not just the listeners but even professionals who has worked in the music industry. That’s the million dollar question, isn’t it? I have thought about how to figure this out so much I actually wrote a whole book on it called That Girl: A Novel. In it the lead character wonders whether to leave the security of the job she hates and pursue her music career full time or to quit her music career and give into the power of a weekly paycheck. You will know whether to keep going when you realize your skills come easy to you. Even when obstacles are created, you are able to maintain poise and continue on your path.
