We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelly Fitzpatrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelly, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
The one thing about the animal rights movement that outsiders are probably unaware of is how their food and beverage choices are harming and hurting animals. By choosing plant-based meats and non-dairy alternatives, people can improve their health, protect animals, and save the planet.
It’s as simple as choosing a non-dairy creamer or non-dairy milk when you go to the grocery store or Starbucks to get your favorite coffee. There are plant-based meats from companies like Beyond Meat and Impossible Burgers, plant-based hotdogs by LightLife, and plant-based eggs by Just Egg that can make a tremendous positive impact on your health and energy levels.
Today, with Covid-19 (The Corona Virus) brought on by consuming animal meat, and previous animal meat viruses like H1N1, Swine Flu, Bird Flu, and avian flu in poultry, its time to remove animal meat from the menu.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I keep quite busy with saving animals and educating the public on living healthier lifestyles. I achieve this by having authored a couple of books called “50 Reasons for a Vegan and Plant-Based Diet” and “Plant-Based Superheroes.” I also help to reunite lost animals with their owners, rescue animals during fires, and fight against the dog meat trade in Asia. I raise awareness and help support Vegan films and documentaries. My next project is working on an upcoming film called “The Animal Activist.”
There are always lessons and challenges in this movement and in life. I find I am more capable to tackle life’s challenges when they arise by asking God for assistance and guidance.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite local spots are the Orange County beaches, Native Foods for some good Vegan food, Laguna Beach arts and entertainment, and kayaking around our local harbors and bays. Recently while out on the water, my wife and I discovered some inhumane forms of sea lion determent on boats. These methods are illegal and I am now raising awareness and kicking off another venture to help protect our marine mammals. I’m very excited about this new chapter!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my ShoutOut to Ingrid Newkirk of Peta. She is one of the founders of the animal rights movement. Newkirk brought awareness to the plight of animals and how we can all do our part to protect them. It consists of not eating animals, not wearing products made from animals, and choosing products not tested on animals. Today, we continue to fight against speciesism – (the idea that being human gives us more moral authority over animals) racism, and sexism. I believe the women’s rights movement will be next and led by our amazing young female generation.
