We had the good fortune of connecting with Shemaiah Monique Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shemaiah Monique, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I’ve personally been at this particular crossroads in my life more than I would’ve liked to be. I have personally always lived by the mantra “giving up is not an option”….However, I’ve had to make decisions that resulted in me simply walking away. Sadly, we’ve been told that giving up equates to being defeated, which in some cases are true. However, in most cases, it is necessary. I often mentor and coach with women (specifically) and we have this conversation of when “giving up” is in fact an option. I always have them ask themselves a serious of questions: 1 .Imagine your life without doing something, how would you feel? 2. Imagine your life if you keep going, how would you feel? 3. Notice your inner dialogue, is it assuring or fearful? Once you are able to tap into these questions and answer them honestly and with assurance, you must then make your decision. These questions are necessary in deciding what’s worth fighting for or simply walking away from.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
CRWN 31 is my baby. I birthed this brand with a mission to help build purposeful women. I wanted to give women a holistic experience through empowerment, style, and legacy. This brand was literally the start to “not giving up”. I knew this was my last resort in entrepreneurship. It was time to fully walk in the things that were always uncomfortable. January 22, 2020, we re-launched and it’s been a blessing ever since! Every single product or event we’ve curated has done exceptionally well. We have recently launched the “Queen IQ: Coaching/Mentorship Program”, that develops thriving female CEO’S/businesses. I coach women monthly on how to start, grow, and sustain their business…step by step. I provide resources and actionable tools that my clients can implement on a daily basis, It has already been amazing, as my clients have launched podcasts, hair care, as well as skin care lines. It makes me so proud that I am apart of their journey and giving them the confidence to bring their dreams into fruition. We are also currently curating an “Entrepreneur Exposure Program”, that helps provide female entrepreneurs maximum exposure for their brands/businesses. I know how hard it is to get a product or service noticed and I want to help with providing my platform of resources and network of successful women. My entrepreneurial journey (next to giving birth lol) has definitely been one of the most difficult tasks I’ve embarked on. Yet also the MOST FULFILLING. I’ve felt every single emotion that comes along with this journey. The embarrassment, the feelings of being a failure, rejection, feeling stuck,…but I kept moving. I did not stop. I remained consistent. If something didn’t work, I took another route. And that’s what I want women to gather from me…is that I don’t give up. That is my entire work in a nutshell.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Okay, not only am I a girly-girl…I’m a foodie! So I love getting dressed up with my girls and hitting the cutest restaurant for laughs, drinks, and amazing food! I’m also a hopeless romantic, so I love making memories with husband for either a vacation or a great date night. A day or night our with my girls, would be the San Antonio Winery, catching views at the Viceroy L’emitage Beverly Hills, and a yummy meal at either a cute boutique restaurant for Brunch or dinner at probably the best soul food spot that ends with major laughs! Vacation really is a time for my husband and I to relax, eat, and have big fun. Upon arriving we find the best local restaurant and relax. The next few days are filled with excursions and sight seeing. Date night is always a jam! If we’re in LA it’s definitely Mastro’s. Ruth Chris is always a yummy classic favorite as well. We are also huge kids so Universal Studios or Disneyland is definitely a stop.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely without a doubt, my husband of 5 years, Jamal Jones. From the day we met, he challenged me. I knew that there were certain things in my life that would only come into fruition once he would become my covering (husband). His heart and love for me is unmatched. I admire his hustle, ambition, and drive to become knowledgeable in life. My daughter, Sarai Jones….she’s two going on 21. She is literally the light of the life. She is so loving. I’m stronger because of her. Every move my husband and I make is for her. She’s the boss lol. I totally match his fly lol Also, my dad. Reginald Ridgeway, who is a Pastor (Faith Way baptist Church in Los Angeles, CA.) You can imagine how STRICT my upbringing was. lol However, I am now so grateful for it, It protected me from so much as a young woman. Oddly, I learned how to run a business from watching my dad as a Pastor. I learned how to work with people as an effective leader. Him being a constant figure in my life, has reared me into the woman I am today. My mom, Shonda Ridgeway. I’ve just always admired how she loves. She’s showed me how to be a Mother that rears her children after the love of Christ. She taught me how to be confident yet humble. She validated me but also taught me how to be the first one in the room to uplift and acknowledge other women…which is how I am able touch women lives today. The women I admire – Beyonce (of course lol), Michelle Obama, Arian Simone, Nichole Lynel, Madame CJ Walker, along with my amazing friends and colleagues! I’m so blessed to know so many women who I pattern my goals after and who set me ablaze to accomplish them!
