Tani Roberts | Owner and Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tani Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tani, what is the most important factor behind your success?
We always remind ourselves that we are not making our tables for us but for our client. This includes their personality. So I take notes as we work together of details that I believe will be important to them. We want them to fall in love with the piece we make for them. Next, is we really don’t look at what our competition is doing. It takes away from what you are at your core. You can make adjustments to trends and marketing but you can only be a success if you stay true to who you are as a company. This doesn’t mean not taking input from your team. They are part of your company for a reason, don’t be afraid to listen. and of course love what you do – be proud of the product you make, if its not right fix it!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a family owned business- we have 5 children and they all have had a part in making Bucket – Bucket. My daughter, Julianna started in the original store and our son Shea would help me with finding items and delivering our tables. As we grew, Tom joined our team and Skylar took over helping in the store. On our larger orders Mackenzie will fly in from Austin to help build. Our oldest Tyler left his job of 12 years and joined the team. He brought in fresh ideas and a new life to us. He was the driving force behind the pop up locations. We now have 3 stores and a build shop. We have had the opportunity to build for Disneyland and few celebrity weddings that took our breath away. I cried seeing our table in Vogue. Still can’t believe that happened. Challenge is watching the money. If you create a beast you need to feed a beast. stop and make sure its working and if not don’t be afraid to change it. The worst thing is to see something wrong and keep hoping it will fix itself. What I want the world to know about our brand is that I hope we bring families closer, I hope we create something that over the years will have a story- I want what we are doing to last.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
We are so lucky to be able to have breakfast at the beach in the morning and take a drive to the snow in Lake Arrowhead for a walk around the lake and lunch and if we are not to tired you end up in the beautiful desert of Palm Springs. We may also visit Liberty Station in San Diego, Go wine tasting in Temecula and take off in a hot air balloon ride. We can play tourist and head over to Sunset and stop by Rodeo Drive. I love to go kayaking in Newport Harbor and shopping at the Lab in Costa Mesa. We would have to go to one of our families favorite spots, The Getty.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am the first to tease him- but my husband. He knew I had a vision so he got me my first space in a store as a surprise, Next, he found my first store location and reached out to the owner before he even told me. He sold his company and joined me and that was the real start… his eye for quality started setting us apart. He changed our look. He had patience with me when I wanted a build and it was in my head. Patience for a Texas man is award winning! He is my rock but lets me be the boss….
