The Characteristics & Habits That Matter

We asked some of the city’s rising stars about why they think they have been so successful and we’ve shared their responses below.

Resilience and a strong mindset. Despite being 16 years old and only experiencing bits and pieces of the industry, I have built up habits based off of my rejections. I am sensitive, and while that can be a negative or a positive, both success and rejection impact me greatly. Just in the past 12 months I have faced my share of success — from participating in college summer film programs to a successful film shoot to an award for my art. And as expected, I also faced rejection — lots of it. All the adults around me consistently remind me of the hardships of the industry, and while it’s discouraging, it is also preparing me for my future. Honestly, getting with a great group of people who aren’t afraid to give you criticism, but also know you, & want you to succeed. Garnering genuine people who surround your art with support from all angles is the best way to success. Read More>>

One thing that has always been true of me is that I’m a good learner. I really enjoy the process of understanding my limitations and strategizing how to succeed anyway! I’m the youngest of four siblings, and all of them really modeled this behavior growing up. Read More>>
