We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyniah Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyniah, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I was surrounded by art and entertainers within the family. Being artistic and creative gives me a platform to express myself. Art allows me to tell stories, having a social change reaching out to others with performing art, fashion, and beauty. When I am performing or creative art, it brings me joy and peace. While performing, I love letting my personality shine with my stage presence. Fashion makes a statement showing my sense of style and design. But my number one reason I chose to have an artistic and creative career is to showcase my gift/talents God has given me. To shine and show the world!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Music is in my heart. When singing, I love to express a story, a melody of artistic self-expression, and communication with my voice. Singing helps me explain my emotions as well as writing songs, singing gives me inner peace. In my dancing, I use the music to move me as I choreograph to the rhythm of the beat. I dance to various styles such as Hip hop, Jazz, Salsa, Contemporary, and Afro-dances. I love culture from all over the world! When acting in film or theatre, I portray a character using my imagination like a storyteller bringing the character to life. Fashion is how I reflect my craft with fashion design and style within cultures and self-expression; I have a wide variety of fashion looks. Fashion gives me the joy and confidence to be me. My future goal is to collaborate together artistic and creativity within my career. I stay determined and stay devoted to my passion for art. I have a bright personality and want it to shine through my work. I am excited about my future. I realize my time is now! I have to let go of all my fears. I have to remember that the waiting season has a purpose. I have to trust the process, even the delays or detours. I have to keep trying, keep believing holding on tight to my dreams. Write down my vision, make a plan, and then go for it while reaching for the stars! Be you! Be the type of person that you want to be—no need to compare yourself to others. Be unique, be beautiful, be brave, and know your loved. I have to set my mindset to be clear, staying positive, and continuing to love myself. Keep going forward; keep learning. It’s okay to make mistakes but learn from them. Be willing to grow and be fearless. Never give up! With a learning disability, it is sometimes extremely frustrating. I have trouble with some things others tackle with ease. With my challenges, it did lead to low self-esteem, feeling alone, but I know I am not alone. I will never give up. I will always try my best in life. I am moving forward instead of allowing any struggles to hold me back. My faith in knowing that God knows how hard I work and how much time I put into my work. I know that God has a plan for me. He knows what I’m going through. With God all things are possible, and I should not worry about anything, just give it all to God, and he will make a way. I am putting my education, career, and life in his hands. He knew I could handle it, and he knew I have the drive to keep going. My struggle is just to make me stronger so that I could partake in anything that may come my way. I thank the Lord for being such a loving God to me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Restaurant – The Forum Blue Cafe is one of the best restaurants in town. It has a great atmosphere and friendly servers. Museum – The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens. The Huntington Library where I could go to relax from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I love walking through their botanical gardens. Mall/shopping – Victoria Gardens is a great outdoor shopping mall. The Lewis Playhouse is located centrally within the mall, and they showcase several theatrical performances throughout the year. Victoria Gardens is the go-to place for shopping, dining and entertainment. Lake- Big Bear and Arrowhead lake is a place to go to enjoy great outdoors! I enjoy taking a stroll around Lake Arrowhead Village with my sister watching the ducks swim. Also there is a tour boat ride on the lake as the captain points out the celebrities’ homes. Big Bear Lake is about a 40-minute drive up the mountain from Lake Arrowhead. Hiking- North Etiwanda Preserve is an excellent place to workout. You have a choice of walking a 3.4-mile hike up to beautiful waterfalls or taking the 3-mile loop around the historic water district that the settlers built in the 1800s.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, without Him; I would not be where I am today. His love is ongoing, and I’m grateful for what he will be doing for my life. Along with my Mom and Dad, thank them for always loving me and supporting me and educating myself with their knowledge. My brother and sister, who are both talented, individually show their love, support, and encouragement to do my best in life. I appreciate my family’s love for providing their knowledge and skill set! Infuse Dance Studio, thank you for allowing me to feel at home, a place I could build and grow. To all instructors and dance friends, thank you all for your love warming support. Sasha Frank thank you for referring me to Voyage LA Magazine, giving me words of encouragement to share my story. To all my friends and family who gave their prayers, love, and support. I love you all! Thank you!
